Sure, gas is 3.3x cheaper per unit, but Cosy heat pumps need ~4x fewer units of fuel than boilers, which means 99.6% of them run cheaper on the right tariff. No need to tell half the story...

The new gas field isn’t going to bring down your bills. Gas is bought & sold globally, so the reality is, fossil fuels controlled by dictators have Britain in a chokehold til we fully embrace gas-free driving & heating and cut the link between electricity and gas. BUT, fwiw, getting gas locally is still the right move while we’re transitioning off it. It’s a bit cleaner and brings jobs and tax revenue to Britain.

"Is it actually realistic to get off gas?” Octopus CEO: yes. In some places, it’s already a reality. In Norway, 97% of new cars are EVs and 66% of homes have heat pumps. Their bills are largely sheltered from the gas crisis this winter. Britain's got to catch up.

🚨 BLADES ON THE MOVE 🚨 At one of our Octopus Energy Generation sites in rural France, we’re “repowering” old turbines by replacing them with more efficient, modern and bigger turbines. And huge blades = HUGE LOGISTICS to get these bad boys up and running. Normally, blades are delivered on two supports, but where space is limited *cough, rural France, cough*, we use a snazzy machine called a blade lifter (which you’re seeing here!) Blade lifters are much slower than traditional delivery methods, but in this case it’s the only option to transport these 57m long blades through the narrow village streets. At this site, four out the six wind turbines’ blades have now been delivered carefully via blade lifter. Not long now until they’re all in action creating clean green energy. 💪🌍 As for the old turbines - a majority have been resold to go up at other sites. We’re also converting one of the old blades into furniture for the local community to use in a nearby forest. Talk about a win-win. 🌳

The Cosy 12 heat pump was just named one of TIME's Best Inventions of 2026 – an accolade shared by the @Apple iPhone, the @Dyson Air Multiplier and the @Tesla Model S. 570,000 people have asked us about getting a heat pump in the last 18 months. That’s roughly a third of the UK’s yearly boiler replacements. It makes sense when (not to plug or anything but) a heat pump on a smart tariff costs around £230 a year less to run than a gas boiler, or nearly £350 without the gas standing charge.
