This is the last week to have your say! We invite the Open Source community to participate in the OSI Governance Survey and help inform the future of OSI’s governance:

RT @linuxfoundation: "I'm doing a (free) operating system (just a hobby, won't be big and professional like gnu)..." On August 25, 1991, a 21-year-old student sent a message to a Usenet newsgroup. He thought he was just building something fun for himself. 35 years later, that "hobby" is the backbone of global technology: 🚀 Powering helicopters in space with NASA ☁️ Running the global cloud and 100% of the world’s supercomputers 📱 Connecting billions of people 🎮 Redefining the future of handheld gaming What started as one student's side project became the greatest collaborative technology movement in history. Thank you to every maintainer, contributor, and advocate who made it possible. Happy 35th Birthday, Linux. Here’s to the power of open source and the next 35 years of building together. #Linux35

RT @cra: 🎉 hbd Linux, 35 is a solid run!

Leaders from across the open source ecosystem will gather in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on September 22 and 23, 2026 for the fourth Open Source Congress (OSC), followed by the companion Stakeholder Day.

RT @GaryMarcus: Sad to see the @nytimes confuse open-source (fully transparent) with open-weight models (less transparent; no access eg to training data). The new Meta model is open-weight but not open-source. NYT got it wrong. It is time for both the media and the public to learn this distinction. cc @OpenSourceOrg

RT @coscup: 🔥 COSCUP is teaming up with @UbuConAsia this year 🙌 Join us on 2026/08/08–08/09 at NTUST, Taiwan! #COSCUP #UbuConAsia #OpenSource #FOSS #Community

RT @JensenHuang: For my first post, I’m sharing a letter @NVIDIA signed on why open models matter. AI will transform every industry, power every company, and be built by every country. Open models strengthen safety and cybersecurity, accelerate innovation and diffusion, and enable sovereignty. The world needs both frontier closed models and frontier open models.

RT @GoogleOSS: Exciting news from UN Open Source Week! 🌐 The @OpenSourceOrg has announced the Open Source AI Fellowship to build consensus and policy around what it means for AI to be truly Open Source. As a launch sponsor, (cont)

RT @TechstrongTV: Open source is becoming central to how the AI stack is built and governed. @ashimmy speaks with Duane O'Brien, Executive Director of the @OpenSourceOrg, about OSI’s role in defining open source since 1998 and why that work now extends into AI. The conversation covers OSI-approved licenses, the Open Source AI Definition, policy, education, and why AI systems require new thinking around openness. ▶️ Watch the full discussion: #OpenSource #AI #OSI #AIGovernance #TechstrongTV
