What a country talks about helps determine what it acts upon.
At the Media Dialogue on Media Literacy and Development Journalism in Islamabad, Planning Minister Prof. Ahsan Iqbal asked journalists to give sustained attention to the questions shaping Pakistan’s future: Are children learning? Are mothers and children receiving adequate care and nutrition? Are public investments delivering results?
His argument was a call for closer scrutiny. Reporting on a new school should continue into the classroom. Reporting on a development project should examine its outcomes. Journalism should identify gaps, question institutions and document approaches that work.
The four slides explore what it would mean to make development a continuing subject of public debate.
