Lossless adapter sales to the US shipments to the US have just resumed. They had been paused since late august due to the end of the tariffs exemption for small shipments & related compliance requirements for postal services. Link below + recent major updates to the adapter 🧵

The situation around AI is extremely depressing to me. It's not enough that it fucks my future, I would get some consolation if I could get nice projects out of it, but the moment I do I will get unholy amounts of hatred from the very people I help. I'm expected to keep checking function signatures by hand and tediously implement all the things that can be fully described in higher abstractions, when technology that does that very well 30x faster is right there. And it doesn't help that people primarily from the rightwing crypto-legacy counterculture are making LLM use have an even worse rep by pushing slop or outright steal people's WIPs. The shape of the LLM offer is also incredibly toxic, coming exclusively as a prepaid subscription with hard deadline temporal limits such that even if you're here for outcomes, you have this constant gacha like toxic alarm of "if you don't find a task to give to the AI, you'll be wasting money". So people are like, oh no, my weekly limits reset tomorrow, and I still have 40% of credits left, clearly I must clone some nintendo retro recomp and ask ai to implement dlss5 or some really useful shit. Just in general people are encouraged to use it much more than just focusing on the outcome would have you. But even if you have the discipline to not fall to that, accept that yes you're wasting your sub, and that's OK, and focus on the end result and get there, it doesn't matter because it's treated as an corrupting virus that nullifies any merit in building things no matter how much of the project is borne from your intelligence. And so I stand looking at a shelf of polished projects that I know publishing would get me a net negative reaction. At this point I think just hate everyone here, from the cryptobros tokenmaxxers to the "whether people are morally allowed to build new technologies depends on whether it negatively impacts me personally" crowd. I just wish I had a fatal accident already.

Can Codex app users let me know how it fares on processing a lot of pdfs / images in the same chat? In the Claude app, it's limited to 100 pdf pages/images throughout the whole chat, not reset by compaction, which is very limiting for electronics work, considering switching

Over the past 12 months cost of ordering electronics has roughly done +50% :( Flash memories in particular did +400%, but just about everything else, bare boards, opamps, LEDs, capacitors, phototransistors, load limiters, has gone up somewhat too. Wish that stopped already

EU electronics folks, it's time to make a shell company and get an EORI/VAT number, even if you sell one thing a year. The 3€ tax per component type doesn't apply to professional buys

Like I often wonder about the value of latency reduction, having worked years on gecko codes and hardware and netcode and emulator latency improvements, and what I've observed is that depending on how invested someone is in competition, 1ms of latency seems to be worth between $2 and $10 to people So here's a table for $5, though this may take away some of the whimsy (quantifying only what I think the latency improvement is worth in isolation, ofc there are other factors like motion fluidity, visual quality, input consistency, other features etc; latency improvement obviously not expected to explain full costs of a thing) Switching from 60Hz monitor to 120Hz [for PC games]: 6.7ms ($33) Switching from 60Hz TV to 60Hz OLED TV [works on Switch]: 4.2ms ($21) Switching from 120Hz monitor to 240Hz: 3.3ms ($17) Switching from 240Hz monitor to 240Hz OLED: ~1ms ($5) OCing your official adapter for PC [free, 5 mins. do it]: 3.5ms ($17) OCing your mayflash adapter for PC: ~14ms ($70) Official to lossless on Switch: ~3.5ms ($17) Mayflash to lossless on Switch: ~17ms ($85) Switching from a 1000Hz keyboard to a 8000Hz one: ~0.4ms ($2) Blujay's mod: ...52ms: $260. Cost: $80 to get someone to modchip your OLED switch I think? Possibly less to sell current switch and get moddable one. Also less if you can solder yourself. And zero if you have moddable switch to begin with. So when something that has an improvement/$ this much higher than anything else shows up. You say thank you. You don't complain about the cost. It doesn't matter if you're not invested in competition and your personal threshold for diminishing returns on latency/$ is very low. The ms/$ is SO GOOD that even if you're a complete casual you would probably find it worth to get a modded switch. I barely play SSBU and when I tested their mod I booted world of light because the game finally felt good. This should also explain my astonishment at how little of a fuck Nintendo has historically given about latency since brawl. Latency isn't only for competitive players, when you press a button and it doesn't take ages to do stuff on screen the game just feels better... Not everyone frustrated at input lag for silksong on switch were competitive players

Couldn't have said it better, esp the part about p2w Getting someone to mod your switch costs the same as switching off joycons. You play on joycons? No? Then shut the fuck up about alleged financial inaccessibility. The lag reduction per $ is so much higher than anything around that yes we're taking this any day of the week

How dare you put fix in quotes. smash's online has barely functioned for 20 years. anyone who's even remotely passionate about the game is jumping for joy at good online. if you wanna point fingers, blame nintendo for making such a bad service that we have to fix it ourselves

Hmm I have tied my self worth to winning games on the disfunctional online of a video game due to never accomplishing anything and since I have neither the intelligence and discipline to win nor the wisdom to find fault within myself, I will blame my losses on a mod and harass the dude making things better for everyone for free so I can momentarily feel like I exist and matter Whoever you are, you make slugs look like advanced life forms
