    NEW: Chevron just gave $50,000 to support LA Mayor Karen Bass — and defeat Nithya Raman. "They view Karen Bass as someone who they can work with, someone who will protect their interests in L.A. And they view Nithya Raman as a threat to fossil fuels."

    To Bass' credit, she says she doesn't want Chevron's help. But the whole thing is otherwise reminiscent of Becerra vs. Steyer: a Chevron-backed candidate vs. a progressive with a much stronger climate platform. Details in CLIMATE-COLORED GOGGLES:

    Alright folks, I wrote about Tom Cruise's new climate movie, DIGGER. It's not very good, but mostly I'm annoyed that it's yet another disaster flick with zero interest in climate solutions.

    SCOOP: General Motors is bidding farewell to Lithium Valley. GM no longer plans to buy lithium from the Salton Sea — another setback after years of false starts. There's still hope, though, if you squint. I have details in CLIMATE-COLORED GOGGLES:

    Good news California! You can now install plug-in solar panels without permission from your utility. Your gas company is also required to offer you thousands of dollars to install electric appliances instead of replacing your gas line. Lots more here:

    One bad thing: Newsom vetoed community solar. Lots of states have thriving community solar markets — medium-sized solar farms that can reduce electric bills for nearby residents. Alas, Newsom keeps getting in the way. Details in CLIMATE-COLORED GOGGLES:
