Funny to talk about IOC and FIFA feeling others are "impossible to manage with their demands". I remember this one... 😅

Once again McDonald's desperately spinning their exit from a long time sports partnership - fearing that the real reason may become apparant. In Olympics it was IOC that dropped McD because the company had become impossible to manage with their demands- never mind the optics of the health issues. Wonder if FIFA faced same challenges & felt it was better without McD.

RT @sportingintel: Weekend No750 of waking up to Man City fans hurling abuse, often mild like this from @realchriswood, who doesn’t follow me, never reads my work, but has decided journalism is rage bait because … his football team. Have a lovely Sunday, Chris.

@StanisElsborg @sportingintel You again. Abuse is not great especially personal ones. I read his articles and wonder why he calls himself a journalist. Not proper or excellent it’s poor, driven by obsession and full of bias, he uses rage for clicks, not sure why you reward him? Maybe you can buy your awards?

Watching the abuse @sportingintel has faced for his reporting on #ManCity - then and now - has been appalling. In ‘24, we honoured him with the Play the Game Award for his “proper, excellent and bulletproof journalism.” He has never backed down. Sadly, neither have the abusers.

1/6 🏎️ Formula 1 is coming to Rwanda. A landmark 10-year agreement will bring the African Grand Prix to Rwanda, with Visit Rwanda as presenting partner. But behind the announcement lies a much bigger story about sport, image, power, and politics. 🧵

I’ll stick my neck out and say this F1 race in Rwanda will never happen. The economics simply don’t add up. A country struggling to fund basic healthcare and education has far more pressing priorities than hosting a billionaires’ motorsport spectacle.

Formula One’s decision this week to bring a Grand Prix to Rwanda in the early 2030s could be an important moment for Africa. But the 10-year agreement between @F1 and Rwanda also brings significant human rights risks.

RT @SophiaCai99: The FIFA Council meeting in Zurich tomorrow will be a crucial test for Gianni Infantino as he faces his biggest critics in person for 1st time since FFE plan blew up - The meeting will begin w/ remarks by Infantino & routine business, including a victory lap on the 2026 World Cup, before turning to the thorny issues… - Trump FIFA Peace Prize, the failed FFE proposal and FIFA’s disciplinary procedures (Bolugan red card) - all decisions made without input from FIFA Council - “He’s got to come out of this calming the waters — he’s not gonna calm everybody, but he absolutely has to settle some of his bigger critics right now,” one person in global soccer told me. “Because if he falls or trips, I think it’ll really be a setback for him.” - There is a Nov. 18 deadline for challengers to declare their intention to run against Infantino. - Meanwhile, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi’s European Football Clubs is looking to expand its influence into a global organization for clubs, provisionally called World Football Clubs. Would be counterweight to FIFA - Al-Khelaïfi has been seen as a promising candidate for FIFA’s presidency, but he has said he is not interested. - Infantino’s latest play to shore up support among developing countries: a proposed $3.4 billion increase in development funding for member associations - And he’s continued a campaign of personal diplomacy, including trips to Colombia for the inauguration of President Abelardo de la Espriellaand to the a U-14 tournament in the Dominican Republic in August, which made for an awkward encounter with Victor Montagliani
