Do you like pizza? Imagine if your slice got bigger on its own. That’s basically what happens to shareholders when a company buys back its own shares. Gold giant Newmont (ASX: NEM) just announced it’s spent another $1.6 billion doing exactly that in the past three months. All up, it’s cut its share count by about 10% since early 2024. Fewer shares means shareholders own a bigger slice of the business and its profits. But buybacks aren’t free. That cash could have gone to bigger dividends, new mines or paying down debt. And Newmont says it can stop the buybacks at any time. Here’s TSN’s Take. A buyback doesn’t make the pizza bigger. It changes how it’s sliced. The real question is whether the company paid a fair price for its own shares. #Investing #shares #Gold #ASX #stocks

Ever been paid for getting dumped? Gold miner Regis Resources (ASX:RRL) just has been. Back in May, it agreed to merge with Vault Minerals. Then rival Genesis Minerals came along with a better offer. But Regis didn’t leave empty-handed. Vault paid it a $51 million "break fee". That's money which is agreed upfront in case one side chooses to go with someone else. Now Genesis and Vault say merging could unlock about $2 billion in savings and other benefits. Vault shareholders will vote on the merger next month. Here’s TSN’s Take. In a bidding war, losing doesn’t always mean losing out. That’s why break fees exist. #Mining #ASX #Investing #fintok #gold

Ever moved into a new place and had no power? Data centre operator NEXTDC (ASX:NXT) has that problem on a giant scale. Work on the power lines feeding its big Melbourne data centre has been suspended, and NEXTDC doesn’t expect the next power boost until FY28. No power means no billing, so NEXTDC slashed revenue guidance by more than a fifth. Its shares fell sharply on the news. NEXTDC says the capacity is still under contract and building is continuing. But some contracts include penalties for late power, and in some cases, customers can walk away. Here’s TSN’s Take. Every boom has a bottleneck. For the AI boom, it was originally chips. Now it could also be power. #tech #ASX #stock #finance #fintok

Do you know someone with diabetes? Almost 1.9 million Australians have it, and foot infections are one of its most dangerous complications. Recce Pharmaceuticals (ASX:RCE) just announced that its topical gel trial showed “strong efficacy" for treating those infections. But here’s the fine print. The trial is ‘double-blind’. That means some patients got the active gel, some got a placebo, and nobody knows who got what yet. The real test comes when an independent committee "unblinds" the data to separate the gel results from the placebo. Then it could recommend moving towards approval, changing the trial, or stopping it. Here’s TSN’s Take. A good result only counts when you know what it’s being compared against. Until the blind comes off, it’s a signal, not proof. #diabetes #ASX #stock #health #medicine
