    First proper session back in the gym this morning, after two and a half weeks off. Upside is careful diet and creatine has prevented me putting on unwanted weight during the hiatus. Downside is that, being 48, the 18 day break may as well have been a year. Absolutely smashed.

    My trial in the Old Bailey ended today, the 3rd day of jury retirement I’d almost forgotten that this building was where I wrote most of the 1st draft of my 1st book, #KillerIntent Until I spent the past few days writing my 8th in exactly the same spot All very nostalgic!!

    There’s something very nice about seeing deer in the front garden on the way to work, only to be in London Marylebone 22 minutes later & at the Old Bailey in under 40 I know it’s not technically the country, but with cornfields next door & wildlife like this, it’s close enough…

    Before I started weight training in 2025 - when I was more of a fat bastard than I cared to admit - I would eat something like this. Then dessert. Then probably some sweets in front of the TV. I had this last night. I was knocked out: 8pm to 7am. Still bloody nice though!!

    2 week trial & lots of urgent side work has kept me out of the gym for the past fortnight I was feeling guilty. Then I made my speech today & contracted the post-speech munchies! Now I’ve no choice: back to the gym tomorrow come hell or high water! But first…Toby Carvery!!
