🇺🇸🤝🇨🇿 In Prague, Ambassador Goettman met with the Czech Republic’s Deputy Minister for Industry and Trade David Müller and Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs @MarieChatardova to discuss strengthening our bilateral trade relationship and concerns with the Czech Republic’s pharmaceutical pricing practices. Ambassador Goettman underscored the importance of ensuring a fair and balanced trade relationship with the EU and emphasized the need for stronger U.S.-EU cooperation on non-tariff barriers and economic security issues.

In honor of National Seafood Month, the @WhiteHouse unveiled the historic America First Seafood Strategy, outlining a whole-of-government approach to revitalize the U.S. fishing industry by removing foreign trade barriers and unlocking new markets for U.S. fishermen. Under @POTUS’ leadership, U.S. seafood exports reached $5.53 billion in 2025, increasing 12% compared to 2024, and many of our trading partners have committed to remove trade barriers that undercut our global competitiveness. U.S. seafood exports are continuing to trend upwards in 2026.

This week, Ambassador Goettman met with Italy’s Secretary General for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Riccardo Guariglia, to discuss strengthening our bilateral trade relationship and raised U.S. concerns regarding Italy’s digital trade policies and pharmaceutical reimbursement practices. Ambassador Goettman underscored the importance of Italy’s role as a leader in the European Union and expanding business opportunities between our two countries to further deepen our economic ties.

🎣RESTORING AMERICA’S SEAFOOD DOMINANCE: For too long, federal seafood policy has effectively punished American production while rewarding foreign dependence. Foreign imports harvested under lax environmental protections and labor standards continue to undercut domestic producers at home and in export markets.   In April 2025, President Trump signed the Restoring American Seafood Competitiveness Executive Order directing government agencies to develop a seafood strategy to reduce regulatory burdens and compliance costs and tackle unfair foreign trade practices, including unjustified non-tariff barriers, IUU fishing, and forced labor in the seafood supply chain.     Today, the @WhiteHouse released the America First Seafood Strategy which outlines a whole-of-government approach to strengthening our fishing industry and restoring America’s seafood competitiveness by unlocking new market opportunities for U.S. fishermen.     Under the trade pillar in the strategy, USTR highlights actions taken to promote fair, balanced, and reciprocal trade, as well as ongoing efforts to monitor and enforce commitments related to fisheries and seafood in all U.S. trade deals.   Learn more:
