“Real good matchup, Nico is a great receiver, so," Banks voice trailed off, cracking a smile when a teammate repeated my suggestion that "Banks are closed on Sundays," harkening back to a statement about his ability to blanket receivers from his rookie season that, truth be told, was more hope at the time than reality. "I had to have great eyes every snap, every play and just kept going. I don't know if that was my best game, I'm just going out there playing football and focused on one snap at a time. That's really it."

This NY Giants comeback star shut down one of the NFL's best. Apparently, Banks are closed again on Sundays. Deonte Banks has the pen and he's writing an improbable yet equally impressive comeback story, and this was the best chapter yet:

I talked to Jermaine at his locker today and will have a column on his journey to where he is right now, and how he refuses to be satisfied. Excited to write this one. Why I asked Schoen about Elue today as well.

Jermaine Eluemunor v. Will Anderson Jr. Getting this level of play v. the clear favorite for DPOY is a luxury for the Giants. Was so obvious that re-signing him was a must this offseason. Genuinely might be the most underrated player in the NFL

The thing about Arvell, having talked to him a bunch since early in camp: he knows he’s damn good, so these kind of plays are ones he expects to make and doesn’t think of them as anything special. But this is uncommon.

RT @art_stapleton: On J.J. McCarthy, who returned to the scene of his greatest triumph and made start of this next chapter about the promise of what's to come, not any missteps from the past between his crowning achievement that night in January 2024 and now with Giants.

RT @art_stapleton: Jason Garrett, voice of reason for why Giants deserve respect: “The best teams in the NFL have an identity. [To Mike Tomlin] For 19 years, your Pittsburgh Steelers had an identity. [To Devin McCourty] For 13 years, your New England Patriots had an identity. John Harbaugh has brought an identity to the New York Football Giants. They’re tough, they’re rugged, and he makes hard decisions.”

Great nugget here from Adam about the compensatory formula as it relates to Buckner. I did not know that aspect of the rule. So if you give a four, that might be enough.

Giants QB J.J. McCarthy will be staying in the area during the bye week. He'll have his long-awaited reunion with his 1-year-old son, Rome, who he has not seen in person since before the trade from Minnesota. His wife Katya was here two weekends ago. They'll join him this week.

Trade: Colts have agreed to send eight-time Pro-Bowl guard Quenton Nelson to the Seattle Seahawks, per me and @rapsheet. Nelson is on an expiring contract and the Colts are opting to get back draft capital now before they could lose him in free agency. But an all-time Colt now moves on to the Seahawks.

Eagles should put Saquon Barkley on IR to protect himself from the urge to play hero for a team that is going nowhere. Seen this movie before, and Saquon won't shut it down himself. At least do it for four weeks and let him try to get healthy before playing again.
