RT @belizardd: "Isn't it risky?"
My favourite answer is: it depends on what you consider “risky,” so let’s break it down.
- You move money out of your Ethena Pay USD balance into an external vault run by @upshift_fi and curated by @SteakhouseFi; @EthenaPay is only the interface.
- The strategy supplies USDe as collateral on Aave V4 on AVAX, borrows USDT, swaps back into more USDe, and repeats (leverage is ~11x).
- Plain USDe supply yield on that market is basically ~0%. The 12% is driven almost entirely by @merkl_xyz incentives. Without those incentives, the position is deeply negative-yielding (borrow costs dominate).
"What are the risks?"
- 11x leverage. There was a time when USDe depegged to ~$0.65 on Binance in Oct 2025. Even modest temporary dislocations between USDe and USDT on AVAX markets, oracle quirks, or rate spikes can push the position into liquidation.
- The yield is almost entirely a temporary subsidy, not organic protocol revenue. Campaigns end, get diluted as more capital enters, or change terms.
- Smart contract risk, ofc. :)
P.S. No, I’m not skeptical about 12% APY. I have a code (thanks to @alpha_pls) and I’m waiting for Ethena to open in the EU. I’ll be among the first to rush into depositing, kek.
I do think Ethena is one of the best places to park capital and earn yield, if you have the opportunity.
