Lots of debate this week on whether journals should ban AI in peer review. We actually tested this in our new preprint, and the results were pretty clear to me. For context, I've reviewed for most of the big journals and evaluated 1,000 human reviews as an editor. I love to read and evaluate science. TLDR: From now on I won't do any peer review without AI. For clinical trials, I'd even call human-only review dangerous 🧵

Here’s another #stroke RCT: MILDMT @NEJM In 300 patients with mild #stroke from large vessel occlusion & substantial at risk tissue, endovascular therapy <24h gave mRS 0 to 1 at 90 days in 69.4% vs 50.0% (OR 2.32, 95% CI 1.41 to 3.81); 13.2% had serious procedural complications.

#AI @LancetDigitalH ▶️ 125 readers checked head CTs for intracranial #haemorrhage (randomised crossover). 😬, there was over reliance on wrong AI advice & under reliance on correct advice! Nonetheless, explainable AI improved diagnosis vs no AI (OR 1.84, 95% CI 1.49 to 2.28).

RT @TheLancet: Use of an AI chatbot ahead of GP appointments required no safety interventions in first real-world small study. However, authors caution that this study doesn't suggest AI chatbots are able to diagnose or triage patients without a doctor's oversight. 🔗

RT @Channel4News: The London mayor Sadiq Khan has hailed what he called the end of two decades of decline for the capital's main shopping street as a large stretch of Oxford Street became fully pedestrianised. Bus stops and taxi ranks have been dismantled and future plans include planting trees and creating public squares, at a total cost of around £150 million.
