…speaking of inventions, here’s a good one: A six year project from conception to delivery, this is Robodiving™️. My curiosity regarding the combination of #AdvancedRobotics and live theater led me to invent this first ever synergy between robotics and the art of diving. It’s still early days for this concept, but this is a very cool step towards fully recreating (and replacing) the dynamics and force vectoring of a spring board, with a robotic dive platform. The process of a human being diving into deep water is thousands of years old, and this is the historic first application of robotics to this function. With time and with continuous development (and with growing confidence), the robotic movements will get faster and faster, and more and more powerful, and things will progress to the point where diving will be have been totally reinvented. The sky’s the limit, figuratively AND literally… Remember where you saw it first. “See the future, and figure out how to get there early…” Stay tuned.

Nick’s “how to”, step by step guide for patenting a new invention: 1) Begin by inventing something new. Something with functionality, and something that solves a problem. (The best inventions are always quite obvious, they just weren’t thought of yet). 2) Write up a clear and concise treatment. A “one-pager”. 3) Get a trusty scribe and a respected patent lawyer and work with them on the written language. (Thanks Ernie Rubi). 4) File for a patent with the excellent @uspto, (The United States Patent and Trademark Office). 5) Hope that you get a fast moving Patent Examiner. 6) Hope that nobody else thought of your idea, before you did. 🫣 7) Your patent application is now examined and tested and if appropriate, (with all of the boxes ticked), it is awarded. 8) Maybe you can now change the world (or a small part of it at least). 9) Get it elegantly framed and stick it on the office wall, and show everybody ;-) 9) Immediately start working on your next invention. 🤯 In this example (Seaface™️), I used emojis to clarify the concept of the idea and to streamline the process. My “emojigram” described my idea simply and effectively and also inspired the graphic section for the patent application. (see diagram) BTW, this is an idea from back in the dark days of the pandemic (in 2020). As a cruise industry devotee, (and a proud and dedicated officer of the company), I spent my days trying to think of anything and everything that might help to keep our beloved industry alive (and hundreds of thousand of people gainfully employed). Seaface™️ is/was a solution for guest and crew identification, facial recognition between crew members & guests, and all video security challenges. Thankfully it was not needed, but it’s always good to be ready and future-proof. In a nutshell: It’s your face, printed on the outside of your mask. (kinda obvious, right?)

Marketing and sales teams love hyperbole and puffery — but let’s stick to the facts: This is the first use of an #AdvancedRobotics #AssemblyLine in live entertainment history. It’s a first glimpse at the future of entertainment technical solutions. …and it’s the first time a robotic assembly line has solved a genuine challenge in the cruise industry. The future starts here.

A bird’s-eye view of a crew of robots building a skateboard halfpipe. Fully automated, perfectly precise, and much safer for the technical team by keeping them away from heavy stage equipment in stressful conditions. (Their role becomes that of observation.) Also, robots use code, not eyes, so this process can happen in a low-light, high-production-value environment. Art and engineering share the stage. A brave new world… 🤖🎭🛹
