The
#IABTechLab has released a major update to the Open Measurement SDK (OMSDK)!
Introducing Device Attestation. This is a breakthrough in combating ad fraud, especially on CTV.
This update integrates Privacy Pass, an
@ietf open standard that lets a device prove it’s real without revealing personal data. In other words, we can now verify device authenticity without tracking, a perfect balance of trust and privacy.
Here’s how it works:
• Device manufacturers or OS providers issue privacy-preserving attestation tokens confirming that a device is genuine.
• These cryptographically blinded tokens are integrated into OMSDK so ad verification systems can confirm whether impressions come from real, attested devices.
• Because these tokens can’t be used for identification or tracking, they protect both advertisers and consumers.
This is one of the most important anti-fraud tools ever introduced in digital advertising, but it only works if device manufacturers, OEMs, and CTV platforms adopt it, and if brands and agencies demand it.
If the industry truly wants to stop CTV fraud, this version of the OMSDK should be adopted immediately. Otherwise, we have to ask ourselves: do we really care about fighting fraud, or just talking about it?
Huge thanks to the OMSDK Working and Commit Groups and to
@AmazonAds for their stalwart support in designing and developing this critical update.
