These diversities have made the Indian culture a unique one. Indian dance is one of the most revered identities of our culture. Dance is the form of vibration of our body and mind. Each and every form is dance is important, but yes Classical Dance play it's own role. It is not only the art of quintessence of Beauty, Power but also an attraction to achieve devine power through it. Dance is a form of meditation and prayer that keeps our mind peaceful. Classical Dance is the highest form of art. When someone learns Classical dance, he/she is bound to know the ancient historical stories of Indian culture. They should have a knowledge on Mahabharata, Ramayana, Life of Krishna etc. as classical dance is based on these stories. The text related to the origin of dance in India can be found in Natya Shastra by the Bharata Muni, dates back to the 2nd century AD. In this text, the creation of dance is credited to Lord Brahma, who takes its knowledge from the four Vedas. There are two basic aspects of Natya Shastra: Lasya : It denotes grace, bhava, rasa and abhinaya. It is symbolic to the feminine features of dance as an art form Tandava: This is symbolic to the male aspects of dance and has more emphasis on rhythm and movement There are three basic elements: Nritta – These are the basic dance steps and are performed rhythmically but devoid of any expression or mood Natya – It means dramatic representations and refers to the story that is elaborated through the dance recital Nritya – refers to the sentiment and the emotions evoked through dance. It includes the mime and the different methods of expression including mudras in the dance Guru-Shishya Paramapara: It forms the core of the Indian Classical Dance forms. The basic meaning is that each dance form is related to a Guru (Teacher) and he/she transfers that knowledge of dance to a Shishya /Student.) The 8 basic technicalities that are expressed in the classical dance : Shringar: Love Hasya: Humorous Karuna: Sorrow Raudra: Anger Veer: Heroism Bhayanak: Fear Bibhats: Disgust Adbhoot: Wonder Classical dance has a deep-rooted relationship with the Natya Shastra where the specific features of each of the dance forms have been mentioned. There are 8 classical dance forms in India as per the sources and scholars. The Cultural Ministry of India has included Chhau into the list of classical dances that makes a total of 9 classical dance forms. India has various forms of dances including classical dances and folk dances. To learn classical dance, one must be hard-working and should have enough patience and disciplined. It also makes a person fit physically, as Classical Dance needs total body movement and perfect postures. What we see around us in this Universe is but energy that is in constant vibration, producing a subtle sound. What is wonderful about this harmonious flow / creating energy is that it has Consciousness and is influenced by our actions and emotions. The Story of Ranchordas Pagi: An Unknown Hero of India #Longthread Manekshaw In His Last Times Kept Remembering This Old Man Called ‘Pagi’. In 2008, Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw  was admitted to Wellington Hospital, Tamil Nadu. He often kept taking a name ‘Pagi-Pagi’ during the days of his ill-health and semi concious state. The doctors asked one day “Sir, who is this Paagi?” This story is based on what Field Marshal Sam Bahadur himself narrated. In 1971, India had won the war. General Manekshaw was in Dhaka and ordered that Pagi be invited for dinner that day. A chopper was sent. While boarding the chopper, a bag belonging to Pagi remained left on the ground and the chopper was turned back to pick it up.The officers opened the bag before placing it in the helicopter as per the rules and were stunned because it had two rotis, onions and a dish of gram flour (gathiya).One half of the meal was eaten by Sam Sahib and the other by Pagi for dinner. Later, a border post of ‘Suigaon’ at the international border region of North Gujarat was named  ‘Ranchoddas Post’. This was the first time that an army post was named after a common man as well as a statue of his was installed. Pagi means ‘guide’, the person who shows the way in the desert. Ranchoddas Rabari, the man in the picture, was affectionately called ‘Pagi’ by General Sam Manekshaw. Ranchoddas of ‘Pathapur Gathras’, a village bordering Pakistan in ‘Banaskantha’ district of Gujarat was where he used to rear sheep, goat and camel. Life changed when, at the age of 58, he was appointed the police guide by the Banaskantha Superintendent of Police, Vanraj Singh Jhala. The guide’s skill was such that after seeing the footprints of the camel, he used to tell how many men are riding on it. By looking at the footprints of humans, he used to guess their weight, their age and how far they must have gone. His estimations had the exactness of a computer analyst. In the beginning of 1965 war, Pakistan Army captured ‘Vidhkot’ in Kutch border in Gujarat. In this encounter, about 100 Indian soldiers were killed. A 10,000 men Indian Army contingent was mobilised and had to reach ‘Chharkot’ in three days. The need for Ranchoddas Pagi was felt for the first time by the army. Ranchordas Pagi took work as a scout on behalf of the Indian Army.  Due to his grip on the desert paths, he guided the army to the destination 12 hours before the scheduled time. He was personally chosen by Sam Saheb to guide the army and a special post was created in the army, ‘Pagi’ i.e. the person with knowledge of feet. The location and approximate number of 1200 Pakistani soldiers hiding in the Indian border was revealed based only by their footprints, and that was enough for the Indian Army to win that front. Along with the guidance of the army in the 1971 war, getting ammunition to the front was also part of Pagi’s work. Pagi’s role was important in the victory of the Indian tricolor on the ‘Palinagar’ town of Pakistan. Sam Sahib himself gave a cash prize of ₹300 from his own pocket. Pagi also received three honors  for his contribution in the 65 and 71 wars – ‘Sangram Medal’, ‘Police Medal’ and ‘Summer Service Medal’. Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw died on 27 June 2008 and in 2009 Pagi also took ‘voluntary retirement’ from the army. Pagi was 108 years old then! Yes, you read it right … ‘voluntary retirement’ at the age of 108! Pagi died in 2013 at the age of 112. Even today his exploits are a part of Gujarati folk songs. His gallant saga will be sung for ages. Barhaspatya Sutra says:- हिमालयं समारभ्य: यावत् इंदु सरोवरं | तं देवनिर्मितं देशं हिंदुस्थानं प्रचक्षते || Starting from Himalayas and extending upto the Indian Ocean is the nation built by Gods, Hindustan. As a contradiction, a few people believe this appearance of 'Hindustan' word in Barhaspatya Sutra is due to the distortion of our scriptures by invaders to suit their agendas, but currently this is what is accessible to us. A Vishwa Guru of the ancient world, India has been a treasure trove of valuable knowledge. The Indian way of ethical leadership, is what provides it the potential to again become the Vishwa Guru which can lead by example and create a deep impact and inspiration for other nations to follow and make universal harmony possible. As per Vishnu Purana, उत्तरं यत्समुद्रस्य: हिमाद्रेश्चैव दक्षिणम् | वर्षं तद् भारतं नाम: भारती यत्र संततिः || The land (varṣam) that lies north of the ocean and south of the snowy mountains is called Bhāratam; there dwell the descendants of Bharata." The unique Indian understanding of the world and the suitable ethical conduct creates leaders who have the power to create impact, develop empathy and resilience. No country / civilization in the world demonstrates such enduring reverence / Rituals related to nature / ancient cult for the Great Mother Goddess, as does India. The Goddess is celebrated in every form, aspect and quality, through music, art, ritual, mantra and meditation, the Earth, nature and the transcendent beyond all expression. Bharata (India), is named after another Bharata who appeared in our history. Vishnu Purana further says, ऋषभो मरुदेव्याश्च ऋषभात भरतो भवेत् | भरताद भारतं वर्षं, भरतात सुमतिस्त्वभूत् || Rishabha was born to Marudevi, Bharata was born to Rishabh, Bharatavarsha (India) arose from Bharata, and Sumati arose from Bharata. Another interpretation of Bharata is the grammatical inference of the word Bharata itself. In Sanskrit, 'Bha' means 'knowledge/light' and 'rata' means 'devoted to'. We all know our country was the centre of knowledge and wisdom centuries ago. So the name 'Bharata' is a reference to this. Most of the concepts in Vedas, Upanishads, Puranas, Ramayana, Mahabharata are based on the premise of 'Dharma'. Though there isn't any word in English that can come close to explain the correct meaning of 'Dharma', it can be translated as righteousness. Hence, the culture of our country is called as 'Sanatana Dharma', which means, 'the eternal and natural way of living'. The culture of our country has been Dharma-based which is universal for all the people irrespective of their sects, gender and gotra lineage. The Sanatana Dharma includes present day Hindus, Buddhists, Jains and Sikhs. Or in other words it includes whoever stays in the land of Bharata and embraces Dharma. The land of Bharata started from the Himalayas to down South till the Indian Ocean. Bharata and its many parts was ruled by many famous dynasties. This map is put on display in Purana Qila, which is the ancient Indraprastha of Mahabharata. Take a look at the map and see the name of your region during those days. Mahabharata is simply the encyclopedia of ancient India. The geographical details are very comprehensive. To the northwest in Afghanistan is the country of Yavanas, who were the Bactrian Indo Greeks (Modern Begram). To their east in the Hindukush is the country of Ashvakas and Kambojas. The Kamviri Nuristanis of Afghanistan, Kamboj/Kamboh of Punjab and Kammas of Andhra Pradesh could be their partial descendants.
