NEW: Japan plans to seek earlier access to information on undisclosed software vulnerabilities from US AI developers and other overseas tech firms as it moves to strengthen defences against rising cyberattacks, the Nikkei newspaper reported on Thursday.
DHS WORKER RECORDS EXPOSED: A hacker group published a searchable database Wednesday containing records on more than 41,000 Department of Homeland Security employees and contractors, exposing the identities and contact information of immigration officers, border agents, and undercover investigators.
The group, which calls itself the Department of Peace, said it accessed internal agency databases through the single sign-on service employees use to access government systems, according to a report. The newspaper said it reviewed the leaked records and verified their authenticity with current and former DHS officials.
When “Star Trek: The Next Generation” premièred, in 1987, a newspaper referred to its leading man as an “unknown British Shakespearean actor.” Patrick Stewart, who was then 47 and had spent 14 years as a full-time member of the Royal Shakespeare Company, was catapulted into pop-culture fame as Jean-Luc Picard. In the years after, he continued his illustrious stage acting and embodied other cult-TV figures, such as Professor Charles Xavier in the “X-Men” series. In 2023, the actor sat down with Michael Schulman to discuss his new memoir, “Making It So,” filled with tales of driving Paul McCartney’s car, learning to be Captain Picard, and trading quips with Queen Elizabeth. NAVARRO FAUCI BOOK: White House senior adviser Peter Navarro's explosive new book, "Why Fauci MUST Rot in Prison," has debuted on The New York Times bestseller list in its first week of publication.
Navarro called the bestseller designation "a very pleasant surprise," suggesting it could signal a shift in how the newspaper treats books by conservative authors.
"Perhaps there is a new détente at the NYT in what has been a cold war against conservative books," Navarro said. "Or perhaps it has become better understood that Tony Fauci's reign of terror and error harmed men, women, and children in America regardless of political party."
President Harry Truman won re-election in a stunning upset on this day in 1948.
The result was so unexpected nearly every newspaper had already predicted his loss.

#EpsteinFileUpdate A federal judge has dismissed President Donald Trump’s $10 billion defamation lawsuit against The Wall Street Journal, Rupert Murdoch and the newspaper’s reporters over its reporting on an alleged birthday letter to Jeffrey Epstein.
U.S. District Judge Darrin Gayles ruled that Trump’s complaint failed to establish that the newspaper published its reporting with “actual malice,” the legal standard required in defamation cases involving public figures.
The lawsuit was dismissed with prejudice, meaning Trump cannot refile the same claims in the trial court, although an appeal remains possible.
Trump has repeatedly denied writing the alleged 2003 birthday letter. The judge’s ruling did not determine whether the letter was authentic.
The newspaper has defended the accuracy of its reporting.
The ruling was issued Saturday, October 31, 2026.

The New York Times really sucks. Once a great newspaper today, it's a propaganda sheet for the radical left. Times reporters must be called out and mocked relentlessly
NYT again tries to explain to its aggrieved readers what a newspaper is and what it is supposed to do. Hint: Its job isn't to get Democrats elected, even in the Trump era
