Traditional "rad-hard" space processors are designed from scratch, costing a fortune while lagging 10–15 years behind Earth tech. With Project Suncatcher, @Google and @Planet skipped that entirely launching an off-the-shelf Trillium TPU pulled straight from a terrestrial data center into orbit. It survived launch, booted up Gemma 4, and sent back a haiku: “Blue marble below / Data streams in silent grace / Starlight feeds my core.” Proving standard commercial AI chips can work in space is a huge step toward 24/7 solar-powered orbital data centers. #planetlabs $PL
