    You Can't Beg a System to Respect You. For centuries, we were told to wait. Be patient. Be polite. Ask nicely. Malcolm X saw what many refused to admit: a system built to deny your humanity will not grant it because you asked well. Dignity is not a favor handed down by those who profit from its absence. In "The Ballot or the Bullet" (1964), Malcolm refused to sit at a table, watch others eat from a full plate, and call himself a diner. That's the uncomfortable truth. Rights that are begged for can be taken back. Power moves only when it is forced to. So what does dignity demand today? Reform, rebuilding, or something bolder?
