DWM DAILY WEATHER UPDATE | 06 NOV 2026| 11:00 AM IST #Topic: Streamlined easterlies bringing sudden magic showers. ==> A full fledged streamlined easterly flow has established over Tamil Nadu & Puducherry. ==> Under its influence, sudden sharp spells of rain are likely over coastal districts between 4 AM and 1 PM. Interiors will receive passing showers during 11 AM–4 PM, while Western Ghats and western interior regions can expect rains between 2 PM and 9 PM. ==> Overall, bright sunshine will alternate with sudden sharp spells of rain. This pattern is expected to continue for the next few days, including on Diwali day. ==> Festival traders, cracker shop owners, dress and other accessory especially road side vendors are advised to remain cautious of sudden rains. DWM DEPRESSION UPDATE -7 | DATED 1ST NOV, 2026 | 6:00 AM IST #Topic: Depression over Southwest Bay of Bengal & adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal. Further intensification into Deep Depression likely, with shear & dry air expected to limit strength near the coast. ==> The Depression persists over the Southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal, roughly 780 km east-southeast of #Chennai as of 5:30 AM IST today. ==> It is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify further into a Deep Depression during the next 6 hours. Continuing the west-northwest track, it is expected to reach the Westcentral Bay of Bengal off South Andhra Pradesh and adjoining North Coastal Tamil Nadu coasts during the next 36 hours. ==> High vertical wind shear and dry air intrusion are expected to disturb the system’s core as it approaches the land. This makes the IMD’s Severe Cyclonic Storm category outlook surprising at this stage. ==> Very slow movement or a stalling scenario is possible once the system gets close to the coast. Overall, a sheared system is heading towards west central Bay of Bengal and is likely to bring rainfall to South coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining North Tamil Nadu. ==> No significant wind damage is expected over South Coastal Andhra Pradesh or North Tamil Nadu. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over South Coastal Andhra Pradesh. #Impact expected over Tamil Nadu: Day 1 (01.11.2026) ==> Light to moderate rains likely to commence over extreme North Tamil Nadu districts such as #Chennai, #Thiruvallur, #Chengalpet and #Kanchipuram during today night hours. DWM DAILY WEATHER UPDATE | 05 NOV 2026 | 10:30 AM IST #Topic: Season’s first streamlined easterlies from South China Sea establishing over Tamil Nadu & Puducherry. ==> Season’s first streamlined easterlies all the way from the South China Sea are establishing over Southern Peninsular India, particularly over Tamil Nadu & Puducherry. ==> These easterlies are likely to bring sudden bursts and sharp spells of rain over the coastal region during late night, early morning and forenoon hours. ==> Interior districts are likely to see widespread thunderstorm rainfall activity during afternoon, evening and night hours. ==> Overall easterlies are further strengthening from tomorrow, so the coastal region will see an further increase in rainfall activity from tomorrow onwards. ==> Diwali seems filled with on and off moderate to heavy rains for Delta & South Tamil Nadu. ==> Chennai & suburbs will also see sharp spells of moderate to rather heavy rainfall activity over the next 5–6 days including diwali day. Late night, early morning, forenoon & noon hours are the watch out periods for Chennai & suburbs. ==> These rains are mostly harmless & scattered, but sudden bursts can bring traffic issues, water logging, and may affect festival traders. DWM 91B SPECIAL UPDATE -3 | DATED 31ST OCT, 2026 | 5:30 AM IST #Topic: Well marked Low Pressure Area over South Andaman Sea & adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal further intensification into a Depression likely, with slow/stalling movement possible near coasts. ==> The low pressure area over the south Andaman Sea has intensified into a well marked low pressure area over South Andaman and adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal by 5:30 AM IST today. ==> It is likely to intensify further into a Depression during the next 12 hours over the Southeast Bay of Bengal while continuing to move in a west northwest direction. ==> As expected, moderate to high vertical wind shear and dry air intrusion will not allow this system to undergo rapid intensification. ==> However, the clash of steering guides between the strong Indo Pacific Ridge and the Westerly Trough influence is likely to result in very slow movement or stalling near the coasts, which may also lead to some intensification close to the coasts. ==> The Westerly Trough influence is acting as a saviour here by feeding moisture and helping keep the system stagnant off the coasts near us. ==> The system might take a more westward movement initially and then turn west-northwest, with a probable landfall between Extreme North Tamil Nadu and South Andhra Pradesh coasts. #Note : North coastal Tamil Nadu coasts means Thiruvallur to Thanjavur coastal stretches. Extreme North Tamil Nadu means Thiruvallur to Chengalpattu coastal region. This system is unlikely to impact directly beyond Chengalpattu coasts that’s why the term “Extreme North coastal Tamil Nadu” is being used (same as in the previous & very first update). Chennai falls within Extreme North Tamil Nadu. #Conclusion: 91B is expected to remain relatively weak (Depression / Deep Depression category) due to shear and dry air, but slow movement near the coast remains a watch point. DWM SPECIAL UPDATE -2 ABOUT 91B | DATED 30TH OCT, 2026 | 12:45 PM IST #Topic: 91B unlikely to intensify into Deep Depression or Cyclonic Storm (Murasu). ==> The low pressure area (Invest 91B) over the South Andaman Sea is likely to concentrate into a Depression over the Southeast Bay of Bengal & adjoining Andaman Sea during the next 24–36 hours (around 31st October). ==> Thereafter, the system is expected to move in a west northwest direction. However, strong dry air incursion from the west and moderate to high vertical wind shear will continue to suppress significant intensification. ==> Unlike the earlier system Arnab, 91B will not get a favourable environment for rapid strengthening. The looping MJO and persistent dry air over Tamil Nadu & Kerala region will further limit development. ==> Most probable outcome: 91B remains as a Depression while reaching the coasts it may get weaken gradually. Cyclone status looks unlikely at this stage. ==> Steering under the Indo-Pacific ridge will guide the system towards the extreme northern coastal Tamil Nadu and southern Andhra Pradesh coasts. It is likely to reach the coast as a weak Depression or a well marked low pressure area. ==> A westerly trough over the Arabian Sea can still act as a moisture feeder, supporting rainfall over northern Tamil Nadu even if the system stays weaker. If dry air dominates completely, rainfall may get restricted. #Conclusion: Lock 91B for extreme North Tamil Nadu & adjoining South Andhra Pradesh impact as a weak system (Depression/Low).
