Our next #JCON2026 session is live: 'Better #Assertions with #AssertJ' with @timtebeek Not all #testing libraries are equal. Sure they all run your tests, but what happens when they #fail? “Expected ‘true’, was ‘false’” won’t help you … Grab your coffee and hit play:

In 2019, I started contributing to Open Source and @JoCosti gave me the amazing opportunity to become an #AssertJ maintainer. This week I shared my journey to my colleagues @EPAMSYSTEMS in "AssertJ Behind the Scenes", now available at

Do you maintain a popular Java library, framework, or tool? If you #BrewYourBeansOnJDK17 then please reply with its name and version.

I just found out about this #AssertJ option where you can group multiple asserts on the same object using .satisfies(). It saves me from having to define a local variable in order to run those multiple assertions. Nice!

Instead of buying more stuff that I don’t really need, I’m sponsoring open source #Java projects that I rely on, starting with #JUnit and #AssertJ (via core maintainers Joel and Stefano). If I was a big company using Java, I’d be embarrassed at not sponsoring these projects.

Love to see more custom #AssertJ task/domain-specific assertions created!

🚀 New update: AssertJ support in Testcontainers Mailpit I just added AssertJ assertions to my Testcontainers Mailpit project. This makes email-related integration tests easier to read and maintain. You can now write fluent assertions instead of low-level checks. Example: MailpitAssertions.assertThat(mailpit) .hasMessageCount(1) .message(0) .hasTo("user@example.com") .hasSubject("Welcome") .hasTextContaining("Thank you for registering"); This works great with Spring Boot integration tests and keeps test code clean and expressive. 🔗 GitHub: Feedback is welcome 👍

@JoCosti @khmarbaise Wow, thanks for that, Joël! Although I've written a few more lines lately, it wouldn't have happened without your guidance and the support of the team. Glad to be part of #AssertJ 🙂

@brunoborges Using #AssertJ or @MockitoJava without static imports? No... Var args? Can be helpful... Assertions? In the last 14 years I NEVER used the assert keyword. I still don't get why it exists.

Question: I'm about to write an article on #java testing libraries & frameworks, in the context of their use-cases. So, not just #junit and #assertj, but also awaitility (async testing), wiser (email testing), memory filesystems etc. What library would you like to see covered?
