I had a GoFundMe campaign called Moishe’s Mission during 2016-2017. It was when advocates learned that the dogs in line for 💉did not get sedation or pain medication 20-30 minutes prior to the introduction of pentobarbital into their veins to kill them. Moishe’s Mission was to provided the dogs with a sedative & pain med IV delivered thru a catheter or “butterfly” to assure that it was in fact going into the vein (botched euthanasias do happen in humans & animals) and a nice last meal. So when I received the first money to use, I wrote to NYCACC, explained the fund and how I wanted to help several dogs with the first month of donations….The letter I received was penned & signed by Risa.
Her comment that “sedation caused stress” hit Twitter like a tsunami 🌊 This letter was circulated for at least 2 years when the policy changed and they started using sedation & pain meds prior to administering the pentobarbital. (Pentobarbital amounts for the intended purpose for ending a life burns…it’s a corrosive substance.) I don’t know if they use catheters or butterfly’s.
After her response, I sent this first amount of money to a nice pound in Texas… Fort Bend County Animal Services…they have an X account and needed medical supplies. Then the funds were used to help out all things related to saving kill pound pups—transport fees, a pet deposit for an apartment, donations to rescues who were pulling dogs from NYCACC. It evolved.
I found this letter the other day and reread it. Infuriated as ever was her line that the pups in the kill line would get an “extra snack.” A fucking extra snack—why not a decent last meal?
