Same stage. Back-to-back sessions. The connection I see is clear: You cannot separate a nation's AI ambitions from the infrastructure it depends on. Building more powerful models is one challenge. Maintaining control over the systems that run them is another. Who operates the hardware? Where do the data and computation live? Who can change the rules? Can the provider be replaced? Accelerated computation and digital sovereignty are not the same thing. They must be designed together. And DFINITY's Open Cloud vision brings that conversation down to the infrastructure itself: Cloud Engines built from nodes selected by operator, country, data center, and hardware class. 🇵🇰 100 MILLION POTENTIAL USERS ON ICP. But there is a number I find even more interesting. The cost of running the infrastructure beneath them. Cointelegraph reports that Pakistan is developing a national messaging application on #InternetComputer infrastructure, targeting more than 100 million users. Think about what that could mean. Not for speculation. For the economics of the network itself. A national messenger could eventually require enormous amounts of infrastructure: Messaging. Persistent storage. Identity. Encrypted communications. Audio and video services. Continuous availability. National-scale reliability. But here is where things get interesting. ICP is not just a token used to pay transaction fees. It is also converted into cycles, the computational fuel of the Internet Computer. And when ICP is converted into cycles, the ICP is burned. Real infrastructure demand can translate into a real supply sink. But Cloud Engines introduce another dimension. Unlike conventional application subnets, Cloud Engines can operate through dedicated, prepaid infrastructure budgets rather than charging their hosted canisters a separate cycle fee for every message. Under Open Cloud's published payment model: 80% → Node providers. 20% → Protocol fee, consumed in cycles. Payments are converted into ICP and then cycles before this distribution. Now consider three purely hypothetical monthly infrastructure budgets: $100,000/month → $20,000 protocol share. $500,000/month → $100,000 protocol share. $1 million/month → $200,000 protocol share. These are NOT forecasts for Pakistan. They illustrate the standard Cloud Engine payment structure, not a confirmed contract or an additional ICP burn beyond the initial conversion. The actual economics will depend on the deployment, infrastructure contracts, utilization, bandwidth and payment arrangements. And the 100 million figure is a target audience, not confirmed active users. But imagine the implications if this application eventually achieves meaningful national adoption. The infrastructure must be operated. Capacity must be provided. Services must remain available. And somebody must keep paying for that infrastructure. That is the part of ICP tokenomics I believe deserves much more attention. Because the long-term story is not simply about more wallets holding ICP. It is about real organizations generating recurring demand for the computing infrastructure that ICP powers. And Pakistan could become an important test of that economic model. The questions I want answered are simple: How many people actually use the application? How much infrastructure does it require? What is its recurring operating cost? How much ICP is converted into cycles to fund it? And how does that compare with new ICP issuance? Because burning tokens does not automatically make an asset deflationary. Net supply is what ultimately matters. The real milestone will not be announcing 100 million potential users. It will be measuring what happens when a national-scale application operates on ICP infrastructure every single day. Not speculative demand. Computational demand. And if the model proves itself in Pakistan, the next question becomes unavoidable: What happens when more nations begin running essential digital services on infrastructure powered by ICP?
