Here's how I'd build a $3k/month business selling AI-assisted ebooks from scratch:
1. FIND A PROBLEM WORTH SOLVING (ONE WEEKEND)
Forget asking ChatGPT to spit out 50 random book ideas.
Start with a problem people are already trying to fix.
Think getting a better job, managing money, learning a valuable skill, or making a frustrating part of daily life easier.
Search Amazon for books that address it.
If readers are buying books on the subject, you've got a reason to investigate further.
You don't need a revolutionary idea.
You need a problem with proven demand.
2. RESEARCH THE COMPETITION (FREE)
Pick 10 books targeting the same audience.
Study their reviews, prices, bestseller rankings and sales pitches.
Then dig into the negative reviews.
What did readers find frustrating?
What information was missing?
What did they struggle to implement?
Look for patterns across multiple books.
Those patterns reveal opportunities to make something better, more practical or easier to follow.
3. BUILD THE PRODUCT USING AI
Use ChatGPT to organize your research and map out the book.
Use Claude to help develop the chapters, explanations and examples.
Use Canva to create the cover and format the interior.
But don't mistake generating pages for creating value.
Verify the facts. Rewrite generic sections. Add useful examples, clear instructions and practical exercises.
Your book should deliver a result, not just fill a reader's Kindle.
AI speeds up production.
Your judgment is what makes the product worth buying.
4. GET IT IN FRONT OF BUYERS
Upload your finished ebook through Amazon KDP.
Give it a title that communicates the outcome, a cover that fits the market and a description that speaks directly to the buyer's problem.
Test a price that makes sense for your category and the value you're offering.
Research the keywords your audience uses when searching for a solution.
Then pay attention to what happens.
Getting impressions but few clicks? Revisit your cover, title and positioning.
Getting clicks but few sales? Examine your description, pricing, reviews and whether your book delivers what buyers expect.
Treat every result as feedback.
5. BUILD TOWARD $3K/MONTH
Let's look at the revenue potential of a $19.99 ebook:
> 5 sales/day = roughly $3,000/month in gross revenue
> 10 sales/day = roughly $6,000/month in gross revenue
> 20 sales/day = roughly $12,000/month in gross revenue
These are revenue targets, not guaranteed results. Your actual royalties will be lower after Amazon's share, and other costs and taxes may apply.
And here's where the real opportunity lies:
You're not limited to one book.
Once you understand how to research demand, create a useful product and attract buyers, you can apply that process to other problems and build a catalog over time.
Some books may sell. Others may need improvement or may never gain traction.
The objective is to build a portfolio of products rather than depend on a single hit.
You don't need to become a famous author.
You need to solve real problems, package the solutions well and learn how to reach the people who need them.
