Our Effective Accelerationism (e/acc) group chat is going strong! 🚀 We're ready to open it up to a few more members! We're looking for people who genuinely believe in technological progress, AI/SI advancement, innovation, and the core principles of e/acc. People who are optimistic about the future and want to help accelerate it, rather than slow it down. We want to keep the group active, interesting, and constructive, with people who actually contribute to discussions. If that sounds like you, leave a reply! Make sure you're following me, and check the invite link I'm posting in this thread.

ChatGPT Chat and Work just got merged. There's only one @ChatGPT mode now, which apparently can do everything. Not sure how the billing works!

Huge if true: Retratrutide cured sleep apnea. Seriously, what can't this drug do? Seems like a miracle compound at this point.👀
    Fox News Health @foxnewshealth
An experimental weight-loss drug slashed breathing interruptions during sleep so dramatically that one in four non-diabetic patients saw their sleep apnea completely disappear. Retatrutide, an investigational GLP-1 by Eli Lilly, improved more than 50% of obstructive sleep apnea symptoms in 68% of participants over 80 weeks, according to a new study published in the New England Journal of Medicine. Researchers say the results could reduce reliance on CPAP machines, which remain the frontline treatment for the condition that affects over 50 million Americans — 80% of whom are undiagnosed. Seems like @OpenAI moved the big release to tomorrow, likely because of the Gemini 4 Carbon release. 🤷‍♂️

This is extremely interesting: Finally another step towards foundation models without tokenization. Just raw bytes as input!
    Albert Gu @_albertgu
I've always believed that intelligence should come from simple, general building blocks that learn their own abstractions directly from raw data; in other words, the bitter lesson. I think we're finally seeing a real step towards AI that can learn from all data. Language modeling on raw bytes is a microcosm of this ideal, and to me it's a central problem in AI: if we can't build LLMs that learn end-to-end from bytes, how will we handle the rest of the world's data that we understand even less? Last year we introduced hierarchical networks (H-Nets) as a first step. Our new version finds up to 3-5x efficiency gains in controlled scaling law experiments, and at larger scale matches an open-source model trained on 11T tokens with ~10x less data and compute. The posts below walk through what we found and why we think it works.

Some Cloudflare AI users received pieces of other customers' conversations. The incident happened in August and September and was fixed on September 9. @Cloudflare published the technical details on October 26. The leak affected 155 responses from GLM-5.3 on Workers AI. Its advertised context window exceeded the memory allocated to process it, and an inference-engine bug let oversized requests read cached data left behind by earlier users. Cloudflare says no other hosted model was affected and it found no evidence of deliberate exploitation. The model wasn't tricked into revealing secrets. The infrastructure serving it failed to keep customers' data separate.

Please prioritize this PR in @omarchy. Some monitors take over 5 seconds to wake, so the lock screen blanks before you can enter your password. This makes unlocking unreliable. The PR allows 30 seconds after wake. @ryanrhughes

If you're a man, getting leaner and training isn't just about how you look. It may literally matter more for your lifespan. You’re more likely to store fat deep in your abdomen as visceral fat, around your organs, where it drives inflammation, insulin resistance, diabetes, and heart disease. Women are more likely to store more fat in the hips, thighs, and buttocks, which is metabolically safer. That’s why for you, losing excess fat and training regularly can be especially important. Cardio helps reduce visceral fat. Lifting helps preserve muscle and improves metabolic health. Getting in shape isn’t vanity. It’s one of the smartest health investments you can make.

Want more AI compute? The memory is already booked out to 2029. SK Hynix, a key Nvidia supplier, says demand for high-bandwidth memory is twice what it can supply. According to Reuters, the company expects chip shortages to persist through 2030 and just reported a more than sevenfold jump in quarterly profit. These memory stacks sit beside AI processors, feeding them the data they need. Building more powerful chips only helps if you can also secure enough memory to keep them busy. SK Hynix's order book suggests that constraint could last for years.

Omarchy 4.5 RC2 is out, and there's a lot in this one. Each monitor now gets its own workspaces, and you can switch a workspace between tiling, scrolling and floating. The floating layout even comes with a dock for pinned and running apps. There are also redesigned notifications, support for 50 languages, video wallpapers, theme intros and a new Appearance menu that brings desktop customization together. Four new apps ship by default: Hype for Markdown presentations, Signed for PDFs, Disktree for exploring disk usage, and Monologue for camera recordings. There's also a Quake-style terminal you can drop down with Super + Grave. Under the hood, the new F1 installer promises much faster installs, boot and theme switching are quicker, and there's support for NVIDIA N1x and Snapdragon laptops. It’s still a release candidate, so expect rough edges. If you want to try it on an existing installation, switch to the RC channel under Update > Channel, then run Update > Omarchy. Have a backup or a snapshot ready first.

A good example of what "AI alignment" should actually mean, if it were not for the doomers: "Doing what the user intends." If an AI won't do that, it's misaligned. Plain and simple.

OpenAI may soon be buying AI chips from one of its biggest rivals: Google. The Information reports that @OpenAI plans to purchase Google’s Tensor Processing Units, or TPUs. OpenAI has rented access to Google’s chips since 2025, but buying them directly would take the relationship a step further. The deal hasn’t been confirmed, and the terms aren’t known. But it’s another sign that Google’s custom chips are becoming a serious alternative as AI companies look beyond Nvidia for compute.

First time I'm hearing about this. Anthropic got hacked? This sounds pretty bad... 👀
    will depue @willdepue
anthropic is massively underplaying the recent security breach. i'm hearing cathedral achieved full administrator access of the slack workspace (see every message, log in as arbitrary users) where literally every single research secret is contained to those unfamiliar: Ant & OAI keep literally everything in Slack. it sounds exactly the same incident that happened to OpenAI in 2023, where OpenAI was hacked by a random guy who got access to an access token from an external app service "we're critical to national security, we must beat China, and yes we keep all our crown jewels in Salesforce's Slack messenger. yes we have admin API tokens everywhere. why do you ask?"

Anthropic's Claude AI is accelerating drug development, with some impressive early results! Anthropic is partnering with six life sciences companies to use Claude for drug discovery, clinical research, and regulatory processes. Some highlights: • Enveda reduced review times by 89%, while identifying additional issues. • Divergence Labs generated 35,000 antibody designs targeting food allergies, with promising lab results. • Generate Biomedicines developed a more efficient component for CAR-T cancer therapy. Anthropic also acquired Mithril Medicine, a one-person biotech startup that advanced a muscular dystrophy treatment from concept to successful mouse studies in under 18 months. Human trials could begin by late 2028. This is one of the most exciting applications of AI: dramatically accelerating medical research and bringing life-saving treatments to patients faster.
