The off-season feels like it took place in slow motion, but the curtain is finally coming up on Kawhi Leonard 2.0. The clock ticks loudly because it's winning time for him, Scottie Barnes and the Raptors, my column for @Sportsnet:
RT @Sam_Vecenie: NBA guys are just putting an exceptional amount of stress on their ligaments and joints due to weighing more than ever, while also being asked to play the equivalent of 8-10 more games per year in terms of possessions than they were in the mid-2000s due to pace of play.
RT @Sportsnet: The news about Kawhi Leonard missing time due to an issue with his left knee was both predictable and encouraging.
@michaelgrange explains why in his latest.
RT @JosephCasciaro: Here is the Raptors' schedule for the next three weeks, with Kawhi Leonard now week-to-week due to left knee swelling:
vs. ORL (x2)
@ LAL
@ LAC
@ DEN
@ MIL
vs. MEM
vs. BOS
@ PHI
vs. NYK (x2)
vs. WSH
Some more detail: Leonard is not 'injured' but swelling was response to 'wear-and-tear'. He will be rested during week of treatment and return to on-court work after a week.

My interpretation: Given that Leonard was still 'ramping up' after off-season break: 39 minutes in two-preseason games and 24 and 27 minutes in first two regular season games, soonest Leonard is back is end of road trip, Nov. 9th vs. Grizzlies, or next six games.

Per Raptors media release on Kawhi Leonard: No acute damage to his left knee, but will be re-evaluated in a week after being a late scratch on Sunday with knee swelling. At minimum Leonard will be out for two home games vs. Magic and Raptors back2back in LA.
“Until he gets back, we got to figure it out. We can't just let let go of the rope. We can’t have games like we did in Minnesota” - RJ Barrett on Leonard being out.

Kawhi Leonard was down, Scottie Barnes and the rest of the Raptors were out and the new-look Raptors looked very much like last year’s version — but not the good part — vs. Wolves:
RT @Sportsnet: There was never a moment that trading for Kawhi Leonard didn’t come with risk. The Raptors' first glimpse of life without the injured star this season wasn't pretty.
@michaelgrange has the takeaways from Toronto's first loss.
What would the Raptors do this season against quality competition in the games that Leonard -- inevitably - would miss was a major question mark given the Raptors struggles in that area last year. In their first chance they are trailing Minnesota 90-64 after 3Q. Not great.
Not pretty but Kawhi-less Raps fight back, trailing TWolves 55-47 at half after facing behind by as many as 17 in 2Q. Barrett w 14 and Raps with 12-5 edge in TOs and 9-3 edge in Orebs making up for 38% shooting (Barnes 0/9). IQ w 14 and Walter w 9.
Kawhi Leonard played 28 minutes on Friday w no issue, practiced on Saturday w no issues & went through his normal pre-game in Minnesota before he was a late scratch with swelling in his left knee. Good news? The last time Leonard missed time with his left knee was 2019.
RT @Sportsnet: A moment RJ Barrett will never forget 🦖
As he enters the final year of his contract, Mississauga's own RJ Barrett spoke with @SNMichaud about his game-winning shot in game 6 of last year's First Round playoff series.

RT @Sportsnet: The Wizards' size advantage made the Raptors' matchup with the much-improved squad interesting in the early stages of the season.
Toronto won using a familiar formula, writes @michaelgrange.
Lol. out of Time out Kawhi in post; Kawhi steal and (eventual) lay-up, Barnes block, Barnes ore and-1. Lead up to 15. We're done here. Raptos will got to 2-0. Really nice RJ game (23 pts on 16 shots); Barnes w 28, Kawhi w 16 and 3 steals in 27 minutes. Minnesota next.

Raps led by as much as 17 in 1st half but very pesky Wizard D (and some sloppy Raps TOs) cut the lead to two before a late Battle 3 pushed it to 81-77 to start 4Q. Raptors getting a much sterner test than they did in opener vs. Chicago.

Wizards flip the script a big and cut Raptors lead to 60-52, mainly on some better 3 pt shooting. A little sloppy by Raps (TOs and 5/17 from 3). Barnes with 11.
Raps have done so much well (force 22 TOs, hold AD to 9pts) but have done just enough to keep Wizards in it. Barnes w 7 TOs, all of them in transition seemingly; have put Wiz on line 31 times. Lead 105-97 w 3:15 left.
