RT @lftherios: I agree with this fully, but I wish more people in Silicon Valley understood that the same principle applies to freedom. The pursuit of freedom doesn’t need justification. Freedom doesn’t need to justify itself through efficiency or convenience. Neither does sovereignty. Owning your hardware, controlling your identity, and choosing how you build and collaborate with the world without asking for permission are intrinsically valuable.

Mind boggling to me that I can make a thing faster and there's always people that ask "but why?" What kind of mentality is that? The pursuit of excellence does not need justification. Also, I find in so many cases, we can't know the impact of an improvement until we do it. For example, one I've talked about before: Ghostty's high IO throughput has enabled terminal program (emulator and TUI) fuzzing at a speed thats incomparably fast to prior solutions. This has resulted in upstream patches to resolve issues in popular projects like btop, tmux, and more. Speed enabled that anecdotally example that lifted the tides of adjacent communities that don't rely on Ghostty technology at all. I didn't predict this. Make things better because they can be better and let the results naturally play out.

Want to mirror your @github repositories to @radicle ?👇 A community member built a GitHub App that does it automatically: install it on a repo, and every push is fetched from GitHub and mirrored to a local Radicle node. It also retries missed syncs and reports the Radicle RID back to GitHub as a check.

RT @sudomateo: I love how the responses to the GitHub outage today are to move from only centralized SaaS to another. Completely missed the point.

GitHub went down, so I went looking for a decentralized alternative and found @radicle, a peer-to-peer code forge, and contributed a quick fix to test the flow. Contributing via a native patch instead of a PR is wild🌱 Thanks for making it happen @cloudhead @lftherios

GitHub is half-down today. The site has been the center of the software development universe for a long time. However, it is rapidly losing the mandate of heaven because of the perception that it is not reliable. I think the software development community would be best off with a fully distributed alternative, where people can host their own instances and yet have all the convenience currently associated with a centralized solution, including easy forks and pull requests, and some soft of federated identity mechanism so people don't have to create new accounts for every forge they have to file an issue against.

Realising how dependent we are on GitHub. Are there any good decentralised alternatives in future? Even the server and deployments are connected to the GitHub and are dependent on it.

RT @valigo: Good article about code hosting, dependency vendoring, and Radicle, p2p code collaboration stack built on top of git. I myself am very bullish on Radicle. Haven't gotten to actually seeding anything, but follow them with big interest.

RT @dpc_pw: BTW. Now that everyone complain about Github, probably a good time to remind that I've migrated all personal projects to Radicle and I've been using selfci to ensure clankers keep the trunk working at all times, and I couldn't be happier.
