The Supreme Court has unanimously that freight brokers can be held accountable for the trucking companies they hire that are involved in crashes. We aired this story last night, just a day before the ruling came out.

I find that very interesting given that we spent months asking FMCSA why they couldn't take similar action against Hope Trans. The agency hemmed and hawed about due process. Utimately, it was the insurance company that put Hope Trans out of business.

I'd love for someone to explain the difference in the agency's action in this case and the Hope Trans case. @SecDuffy

They crash. They shut down. They reopen under a new name. Now Congress is stepping in. The SAFE Act, filed by U.S. Rep. Harriet Hageman, R-Wyoming, would target “chameleon carriers."

RT @jenntitus10: Chameleon carriers is something federal investigators warned congress about in 2012 according to this GAO report. FMCSA was supposed to make changes but unfortunately as our investigation uncovered the problem persists. Watch “Blind Spots”: @tanyaeiserer

🚨UPDATE : deadly crash in Indiana that killed four Amish men involving an ILLEGAL TRUCKER🚨 *The name of the carrier that employed the illegal is AJ Partners *@FMCSA is expanding the scope of the investigation to include a number of other companies - including Sam Express Inc. *Investigators are gathering evidence at each company RIGHT NOW These interconnected carriers have all the markings of FRAUD and are accused of being CHAMELEON CARRIERS. This is when companies swap names and DOT numbers to avoid enforcement 🚛❌ Our team is also on the ground investigating the driver entry training school — Aydana Inc./ U.S. CDL — that helped this UNVETTED, UNQUALIFIED driver get behind the wheel in the first place. If this is in fact a sham school, any other licenses they supported will be called into question‼️ The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is working AROUND THE CLOCK to hold anyone involved in this horrific crime accountable.

Our one-hour special, "Blind Spots," uncovers how dangerous trucking companies exploit gaps in oversight to stay on the road — shutting down after deadly crashes, resurfacing under new names, and staying on the road.

My latest: Why the trucking company tied to the Terrell crash that killed five people hasn’t been shut down. Despite dozens of new safety violations since the crash, regulators have yet to act — raising big questions about accountability and public safety.

“Coffee” was code for illegal drive time. Truckers say company involved in Terrell crash faked shipping docs and flouted fatigue rules, all while hauling USPS loads. The USPS wouldn't answer our detailed ??s. Can @GregAbbott_TX and @tedcruz get answers?
