One potential issue is that my son is a stunning child Our daughter is also beautiful! But like us. We're very good looking people but not the caliber that get to have an ego about it FIL says "I'm sorry but he doesn't really look like either of you" and he means... better

At 22 months my son has entered his destruction period Fridge magnets are for throwing. Bird cage is for knocking over. MIL just watched him tenderly carry a glass globe from a carpeted room to a room with hard floors for easier smashing I fear that this phase has staying power

Incredible; this happened in my city. Love that. If it had been me out walking with my stroller, at least one of my children would be dead. Thanks for getting this guy back out on the street in record time Benny, really happy you could extract some personal meaning out of this

Honestly the fact that near-universal accessibility of rideshare services has done nothing for DUI fatalities says something incredibly damning about this kind of offender Whatever we do to them needs to be extremely punishing

I'm not against diversion programs for first-time offenders, but they should put you through the wringer. Interlock with breathalyzer in your car, mandatory weekly meetings, etc. If you don't tick all the boxes, straight to jail Second-timers are a danger to society, period

I am extremely skeptical about just ordering "intensive inpatient rehab" for people who do this, because A) a huge percentage of people will not stay sober regardless, and B) this does nothing to address the decision to drive, which is actually the most important element here

The only defense I have for adults who throw big birthdays for themselves is that *a small subset* are actually great ladies who recognize that they're the natural event organizer in the friend group and everybody loves it when they make a weekend itinerary appear like magic

Everyones got a take but I think we are ignoring the real villain in this story: adults who want birthday weekends.

The thing about a birthday is that it kind of applies the perfect amount of participation pressure for weekend plans -- you're not a bad friend if you can't make someone's birthday, but you do feel like you should probably try

Even getting the pumpkin from the car to the house is somehow more annoying than the trip from the farm to the car. If we carve it at all it's purely out of obligation to amorphous ideas about childhood memories
