AFFWA (Regional), Headquarters Training Command, organised a sensitisation programme on vocational exposure and career orientation for specially abled young adults under the Parent Support Group (PSG) initiative. The session was facilitated by Ms Maria S. Santamaria, CEO and Founder of Diya Foundation, Bengaluru, a vocational training centre dedicated to equipping persons with disabilities with skills for meaningful employment aligned with their abilities and interests. Specially abled children aged 14 years and above, along with their parents from the Bengaluru AOR, participated enthusiastically in the programme. The interaction with the Diya Foundation team provided valuable insights and guidance to parents and their wards, encouraging them to explore avenues for skill development, greater independence, and an inclusive future. AFFWA (L), Jamnagar, under the aegis of AFFWA (Regional), South Western Air Command, organised a Fabric Painting Workshop for Sanginis on 15 Oct 2026. The workshop introduced participants to various fabric painting techniques, including painting, shading, and creating 3D effects. Sanginis explored a range of patterns inspired by nature, human figures, and animals, while gaining hands-on experience in applying these techniques. 📮 Reliving History, One Postcard at a Time! ✉️ A journey back in time, where handwritten letters carried emotions and postage stamps told stories of history and heritage! On 14 October 2026, the Air Force Families Welfare Association (Regional), Headquarters Central Air Command, in collaboration with the Department of Posts and the Philatelic Society, organised a Philatelic Exhibition at the historic Old Post Office, Bamrauli, Prayagraj. Set against the nostalgic backdrop of the vintage building, the exhibition brought India's rich postal heritage alive for young minds. A special display of First Day Covers and postage stamps highlighted the historical significance of Bamrauli Airfield, its association with early airmail services and the region's rich aviation heritage. Children enthusiastically participated in postcard painting and experienced the forgotten charm of writing inland letters to their friends and families. Adding a heartfelt touch, the Department of Posts undertook to deliver these handwritten letters to their loved ones, creating memories to cherish. As part of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between AFFWA (Regional), Headquarters Training Command and the National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad, a three-day workshop on “Artefacts of Bamboo” was conducted from 12–14 Oct 2026 at Headquarters Training Command for the Sanginis of Bengaluru AOR. The workshop was inaugurated by Mrs Sunita Shrinivas, President AFFWA (Regional), HQ TC. Skilled artisans from NID facilitated the sessions, introducing participants to traditional bamboo craft techniques and innovative ways of transforming bamboo into creative artefacts. The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation, with Sanginis displaying keen interest, creativity, and eagerness to learn. The sessions provided a valuable opportunity to acquire new skills, appreciate traditional craftsmanship, and exchange ideas in a collaborative environment. The 2nd edition of the Sekhon Indian Air Force Marathon (SIM-2026) was organised on 4th Oct across AF Stations/ Units and at prominent cities across the country in remembrance of Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, PVC - the sole recipient of the Param Vir Chakra from the Indian Air Force. Thousands of participants across age groups, from different parts of the country, came together with immense enthusiasm and pride, celebrating the spirit of courage, fitness, unity and service that embodies the Indian Air Force. The participation of specially-abled children in SIM–2026 further reinforced the message of empowerment and inclusivity. For AFFWA, SIM-2026 was not merely a marathon - it was an opportunity to translate the values of service, responsibility and collective action into a meaningful sustainability initiative. As part of the AFFWA Circular Textile Solution initiative, textile collected from the Air Force families was given a purposeful second life. The collected textile was transformed into customised recycled T-shirts for SIM-2026 and provided to participants across AF Units. Through this initiative, AFFWA reinforced its commitment of empowering the Air Force families while championing sustainable practices, complementing the IAF’s ethos of service, innovation, responsibility and nation building. On 01 Oct 2026, AFFWA (Regional), Western Air Command, conducted an insightful and engaging talk on Financial Planning by renowned entrepreneur, author, and public speaker Mr Ankur Warikoo at the Air Force Auditorium, Subroto Park. Mr Warikoo shared practical insights on financial planning, prudent investment, risk assessment, savings, and long-term financial security. Through relevant examples, he emphasised the importance of developing sound financial habits, understanding investment avenues, and making informed and well-researched financial decisions. The session also highlighted the need to remain vigilant against financial risks associated with fraudulent or unverified investment schemes, Multi-Level Marketing, chain-based businesses, and online gaming. Valuable guidance was shared on investment options relevant to working Sanginis as well as homemakers, encouraging greater financial awareness and participation of all family members in financial decision-making. Under the aegis of the Air Force Families Welfare Association (AFFWA), Umeed Vocational Training Centre (VTC) at Subroto Park supports young persons with disabilities through education and vocational training. Under guidance of special educators, trainers and volunteers, it empowers them to build essential life and vocational skills. Students of Umeed VTC participated in “एक शाम दिव्यांगजन के नाम”, organised by the Department of Social Welfare, Government of NCT of Delhi, under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan. On 22 Sep 26, furthering AFFWA’s commitment towards philanthropic activities and community welfare, AFFWA (L) HQ TC (U), under the aegis of AFFWA (Regional), HQ TC, organised a donation drive at Vikasa Special School for children with special needs. As a part of the initiative, essential grocery provisions were donated for the benefit of approximately 85 children. Mrs Hima Bindu, President AFFWA (L), interacted with the children and school staff during the visit. Under the aegis of AFFWA (R) South Western Air Command, AFFWA (L) SWAC (U) organised an event at Air Force School Gandhinagar as part of "Hug a Greeting Card Writer Day" encouraging children to express their thoughts and emotions through greeting cards. The cards featured artwork created through the combined efforts of Children with Special Needs (CwSN) and Sanginis of SWAC, with heartfelt messages written by Air Force School children. On the same occasion a stationery shop by our Veer Nari was inaugurated by Mrs Phani Shivanand, President AFFWA (R) SWAC on 18 September. The cards were printed and made available for sale at this shop. The initiative provided an opportunity for self-reliance and entrepreneurship, empowering Veer Naris to pursue sustainable livelihoods. On 09 Sep 2026, AFFWA (L) Highgrounds, Chandigarh, under the aegis of AFFWA (Regional), Western Air Command, organised an insightful talk by Mr Ankur Warikoo, entrepreneur, financial advisor, influencer, and life coach. During an engaging one-hour session, Mr Warikoo encouraged participants to continuously challenge themselves by acquiring new skills and building diverse friendships. He shared practical insights on investments and offered valuable guidance to Sanginis and Air Force personnel on helping Gen-Z children develop patience and perseverance. He also emphasised the importance of self-awareness, emotional grounding, financial transparency in relationships, continuous unlearning, identifying sources of energy versus drains, and investing towards long-term wealth creation.
