🚨Supreme Court | “40 minutes? Four minutes. Take out the zero!” The Supreme Court has a pointed exchange with Senior Advocate Vivek Tankha during arguments in an election dispute arising from a Madhya Pradesh by-election. When @VTankha says he will finish his submissions in 40 minutes, the Bench responds: “40 minutes? Four minutes. You take out the zero.” The case concerns a challenge to an elected candidate’s victory over the alleged non-disclosure of the stage of a pending criminal case. Tankha argues that while the criminal case was disclosed, the objection is that its stage was not mentioned. He questions the legal requirement for such disclosure: “Where is the mandate” that a candidate must disclose the stage at which a criminal case is pending?

All India Trade Union Congress Tamil Nadu moves Supreme Court challenging the definition of 'industry' under the new labour code. Sr Adv Gopal Sankaranarayanan: This is a challenge to the definition of industry under the new Code. Your Lordships have expressly left that issue open in the Constitution Bench judgment. Notice can be issued and the matter can be taken up at some point. CJI Surya Kant: Is there any problem with the definition? Sankaranarayanan: Yes. Your Lordships had gone through the triple test. The new definition excludes charitable and sovereign activities. It also permits the government to notify activities for exclusion. Notice can go. CJI: I would like to go through it.

🚨Supreme Court | “Forget about this as a nightmare. We will dissolve the marriage. You proceed further in life.” The Supreme Court, while hearing a matrimonial dissolution case, urges a woman and her mother to put an end to prolonged litigation, with Justice JB Pardiwala telling the mother not to provoke her daughter. A Bench of Justices JB Pardiwala and K. Vinod Chandran says it deals with such matters every day and seeks to balance the equities, keeping the wife’s interests in mind. “We always look towards the interest of the wife because in most of the cases, the wife is always at the receiving end.”

Justice Pardiwala clarifies that its objective is not to award compensation but to find a resolution and end the dispute. “Here we are not sitting for compensation. We want to bring a resolution. We have to put an end to this.” Emphasising the toll of prolonged litigation, Justice Pardiwala asks how long the woman should continue visiting the lower courts. “How long will she continue to visit the courts below? Kahan tak daudegi? Ye umar hai kya court mein jaane ki?”

One day you will remember us, that what happened on 28 October 2026, at 11:15 AM, was the right thing.” The Bench then moves on to the next matter.

RT @parijatpragya: A protest is defined by the conviction behind it, not the coordinates on which it takes place… The denotification of Jantar Mantar as a protest site does not diminish the principle that dissent is neither confined to a designated space nor contingent upon a physical gathering. If a cause moves you, you can voice your concern on X, from the privacy of your home, outside an institution, or within any lawful public space! My views for @LawBeatInd
