During it's budget the UK Government announced an extra £20.4 billion for public finance institutions, including the National Wealth Fund (NWF), the UK’s National Development Bank (NDB) This is progress but even with today’s announcement, the NWF’s budget is still not enough 🧵

To deliver the funds needed for a just transition, we need more. Compared to its international peers like Germany’s KfW, the NWF is far behind. The Energy Wealth Fund is welcome but it shouldn’t be used to drive new FF investment.

The UK Government should build on today’s announcement by turning the National Wealth Fund into a proper national development bank, giving it the capacity and tools needed to mobilise the billions needed for renewable energy investment and a just transition away from fossil fuels
