RT @NicoPortuondo: NEW: Deb Haaland, the former Biden Interior secretary running for New Mexico governor, opposes Martin Heinrich’s permitting reform bill as written, citing concerns over tribal consultation. She joins two New Mexico House Democrats in opposing the bill.

Today, and everyday, we aim to honor the legacy that the late, great Dolores Huerta fought for. She built power in communities that others overlooked and proved that change comes from the ground up. Her legacy lives in every community still organizing for a just & healthy future

RT @democracynow: Immigrant rights and labor icon Dolores Huerta died Wednesday at the age of 96. Huerta co-founded the National Farm Workers Association with Cesar Chavez, representing Mexican farmworkers in California, which later merged with Filipino farmworkers with the Agricultural Workers Organizing Committee to form the United Farm Workers of America. From 1965 to 1970, the union organized the historic Delano grape strike, which ended in major gains for farmworkers' labor rights. "When people think about the strike, it's very dramatic, colorful," Huerta told Democracy Now! in 2017. "But what they don't see is the three years before the strike where we organize workers in house meetings."

RT @RepTeresaLF: Our federal permitting process is broken. We need to deliver cheaper clean energy for American households whose power bills spiked under President Trump. However, I have serious concerns that the Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act does significant harm to our Nation’s historic preservation protections. The bill would threaten Tribal sovereignty and undermine the core mission of the National Historic Preservation Act. We all witnessed President Trump’s destruction of the East Wing; this bill will only give him greater legal authority to bulldoze more of America’s treasures. Trump has proven he can’t be trusted with our history and cultural heritage and I worry about the bill’s effects on New Mexico’s strong cultural heritage. Given these concerns, among other issues, I cannot support the Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act in its current form.  As a former Vice Chair of the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, I know we can have permitting reform while still preserving America’s history and culture. I look forward to working with the Senate to make necessary changes to the Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act before it receives a vote.

RT @PriceofOil: The Senate's proposed permitting bill would strip communities of protections, accelerate gas expansion to power AI data centers, and undermine climate action. It's a gift to the fossil fuel industry. Read more from OCI Executive Director @esbast : #BAAJA

RT @UFWupdates: The United Farm Workers union mourns the passing and celebrates the life of UFW cofounder Dolores Huerta. The greatest possible tribute to her life is for her work of organizing to continue. 1/

RT @AFLCIO: Dolores Huerta was an icon who embodied the fighting spirit of workers and our unions. She'll forever be an example of the best of our movement. We send our condolences to her family and the millions of workers she inspired. Rest in power, Sister Huerta.

RT @AFLCIO: Dolores Huerta was one of the greatest organizers to ever live, using her influence and powerful voice to fight for those who were most vulnerable to exploitation and greed. She will forever be missed, but her spirit lives on in all of us.

RT @BarackObama: Dolores Huerta was a hero of mine. When she co-founded the National Farm Workers Association in 1962, people thought Dolores was crazy. “How are you going to organize farm workers,” she remembered being asked. "They are poor, powerless immigrants.” But that’s exactly what she did, helping thousands of migrant laborers working in brutal conditions make their voices heard, and demand something better. Dolores spent the rest of her life fighting for marginalized communities, even as she herself faced sexism and abuse — including, as she revealed earlier this year, from Cesar Chavez and others within her own movement. She also came up with a pretty good slogan, “Si, se puede” — Yes, we can — that I too often get credit for. But as usual, Dolores got there first. Michelle and I are thinking of Dolores’s family, the people whose lives she changed, and everyone who drew inspiration from her example. Photo credit: National Archives, Obama Presidential Library

RT @SenDuckworth: Dolores Huerta was a true force for good. She taught us all what it means to fight for the voiceless, ensuring generations of workers have better wages, safer working conditions and a fairer shot at the American Dream.   Her legacy will inspire us forever. ¡Sí, se puede!

Provisions under a permitting reform bill (BAAJA) could weaken environmental oversight, limit public participation, and make it harder for communities to hold polluters accountable. Learn more from @NAACP ⤵️

“I think they have handed Trump not just a loaded gun, but they’ve handed him a loaded Howitzer to go after public lands, to permit stuff that even if it’s illegal can’t be reversed by the courts." @heatmap_news

Over the next 2 years, BAAJA—a new permitting bill—would create more legal runway for Trump to make corrupt deals & greenlight harmful projects of all kinds What's worse, it would constrain any future president from repairing the damage @Earthjustice

We should not be putting a price on nature to protect it. This is like putting an economic value on your children or your mother. We're at COP17 this week to fight back against these false solutions and treat nature as the sacred and irreplaceable foundation of all life.

It's time to address the elephant in the room: governments and multinational companies are undermining biodiversity commitments, propping up the current corrupt financial system, & failing to back their climate commitments with money. #COP17
