Oh, hey -- that's us! 👋 You can track what cities are saying about pickleball (and data centers, and surveillance cameras, and more) on our Rankings page, launched just last week:

Someone made a site that tracks what people are talking about at public city council meetings across the US. The only thing discussed more than data centers? Pickleball courts.

RT @MTSlive: Hamlet CEO @subes01 reveals why the most important political fights over American cities happen in meetings almost nobody watches: "Every important fight about cities is happening right now in a council chamber. If you’re not following city councils, planning commissions, and school boards, you’re missing the plot when it comes to politics." "I ran for city council. Nobody shows up, but everybody cares." "A vast majority of American cities had to go online for COVID and started recording those meetings. The combination of having AI available to us now, plus recorded meetings, made it possible to understand how cities work in a way that previously was not possible." @myhamletinc

RT @TurnerNovak: One of the biggest problems in the world today is that no one pays attention to local politics. So glad that @subes01 is working on this. I met him three years ago and invested on the spot, one of the easiest checks I’ve ever written. If you’re building something that touches the real world, check out what Hamlet is doing to turn local city council meetings that no one attends into data that anyone can use.

31 minutes of testimony. Zero council votes. 🌳🏅 In August, Arcadia residents packed their city council to save 34 protected oaks that were slated to come down for a 2028 Olympics equestrian course. The council couldn't respond. The item wasn't on the agenda, and the decision belonged to a staff permit. Residents got the mic. They didn't get a vote. Eight governments. One very loud peacock problem. 🦚 After analyzing two years of South Florida city council meetings, we found that neighboring communities have taken wildly different approaches to feral peacocks: sterilize them, relocate them, protect them—or wait for someone else to act. The birds don’t stay within city limits. The rules do. Read “Peacock Problems” in The District:

To keep buying Flock's license-plate cameras, @city_of_toledo keeps reaching for the same shortcut: waive the bid, declare an emergency, move on. It bid the vendor once, at $150K. The next contract was 5.6x bigger. The bidding disappeared. Read the full story:
