"At Spindl, we ran a campaign and saw no page views but all these on-chain conversions. We thought they’re gonna fire us. And the client's like, bots are humans too, we’re happy." "Crypto has speed run all the crazy stuff that's gonna launch now, and you’re seeing it manifest in regular AI. Crypto was the canary in the cage." "Your bot scrapes 20 sites, and right now those sites don't get paid. The bot pays half a cent for the content." "Within 10 years, the AI line item on most publisher sites is gonna be the biggest one. Not humans." @base106915
MTS@MTSliveSF Compute CEO @evanjconrad explains why Anthropic winning the AI race could spell disaster for GPU cloud providers: "I don’t think the clouds are gonna blow up suddenly or AI is doomed. But it doesn’t matter what I think. It matters what a lender thinks." "Their biggest customers are ones who themselves want to be the GPU cloud. The frontier labs, the hyperscalers, the people who have investment-grade credit, will simply try to disintermediate you if they have the opportunity to." "What if Anthropic just wins, and the clouds can’t sell to Anthropic because Anthropic just wants to do this, and they’re stuck selling to these other competitors who might die." "Is that true? I don’t think that’s necessarily true. But this is the scenario that people are worried about." @sfcomputeevan conrad @evanjconrad003679
MTS@MTSliveBase director @antoniogm predicts that within a year, an e-commerce brand will make $1 million a month without a website, with AI agents doing the shopping: "Agent commerce is gonna have an inflection point where Muse, Instinct, etc, are gonna be using hooks to enable you to actually buy things. This is gonna be an aggressive prediction." "There’s gonna be some D2C brand or e-commerce thing that goes totally viral that doesn’t have a website." "Or it has a website that's literally just a splash card. You're not supposed to see this. The AI agent is. Have them go here." "I predict that's gonna happen in a year. They might even run Instagram ads, but they're not gonna have a website, and they're gonna make a million dollars MRR." @base30101.6K

MTS@MTSliveSF Compute CEO @evanjconrad reveals why the world's AI compute is already sold out: "Most AI labs think, I’m being asked for a really big prepayment by all of these different clouds. It must be because I don’t have leverage or I’m not a good negotiator." "What they don’t know is, no, the cluster you’re buying does not exist. All the clusters that have been built are sold. That cloud has to go get debt for that new cluster." "Most AI labs don’t connect the I have to do a big prepayment to the debt markets are freezing up. But it’s one-to-one." "You can still get some Hopper, and you can still get some Ampere. But if you want Blackwells, yeah, they’re sold out. In part because the Blackwells weren’t made until you ordered them. Very few people speculatively built Blackwells. Lots of people speculatively built Hoppers." "In Hoppers, the cloud builds a cluster, then the cloud sells the cluster. Blackwells, the customer signed a contract, then the cloud built the cluster. So every Blackwell cluster, for the most part, is spoken for." @sfcomputeElon Musk @elonmuskPretty much. MTS@MTSliveSF Compute CEO @evanjconrad explains why GPU clusters are bad collateral for lenders: "This article was more of a prediction of a trend that is already happening. I probably should’ve said, currently, most startups cannot buy compute. It is only getting harder and harder and harder." "If you want to finance a GPU cluster, you need to first have collateral, which is typically the hardware itself. The problem with that collateral is nobody wants to buy the hardware. They want to buy the hardware in a data center that’s operated by a company that works." "And the situation in which you recoup that hardware is often the situation in which the person operating that hardware is just as likely to blow up. There’s a lot of correlated risk." MTS@MTSliveSITUATION EXPLAINED: OpenAI says its AI cracked 3 major open problems in math, computer science, and physics at once. • The math result claims to prove "local smoothing" for waves in every dimension, which would settle the Kakeya, Stein restriction, and Bochner-Riesz conjectures together • That would turn Hong Wang's 3D Kakeya proof, which won a Fields Medal this year, into a special case • The CS result refutes the exponential time hypothesis, the belief that problems like 3-SAT always take exponential time • Hundreds of papers rely on that assumption, and OpenAI says the proof was checked in Lean • The physics result claims existence proofs for 4D Yang-Mills, QCD, and a grand unified theory, but not the mass gap needed for the $1M Millennium Prize • A group led by Nobel laureate David Gross is reviewing the physics proof, and its materials haven't been released • OpenAI says it won't seek academic credit for discoveries made by its internal models @theojaffee: "Don't defer to the experts on releasing materials. MTS@MTSliveHugging Face researcher @evijit explains why billions in taxpayer-funded scientific research are still buried in PDFs that AI can't easily use, and how Project Protostar aims to fix it: "The United States invests $190 billion in R&D research." "When taxpayer data is funding research, the research is not published in a way that is AI-ready. They’re in the form of a table in a PDF, or in very small silos like OpenFDA." "This initiative encourages publicly funded organizations to convert their work into AI-ready formats, into Hugging Face datasets, and release their models and research openly." "This is a Hugging Face project in collaboration with ORCA and Open Forum for AI, along with six orgs. CMU, George Washington University, Purdue, Georgia Tech, Arizona State, and Astera Institute." @huggingfaceAvijit Ghosh @evijitAnnouncing Project Protostar, the next initiative from the our open science efforts at @huggingface.02173.3K

MTS@MTSliveHugging Face researcher @evijit reveals how AI agents audited 2,200 scientific papers and uncovered claims that didn't hold up: "Our Gradio team did this for ICML. We ran replication on 2,200 papers with agents." "Some of the claims made in those papers did not stand up, and we contacted the authors. Some of them made changes to the papers on arXiv. Some of them reran the experiments." "We have a schema where we ask people reporting an evaluation result to also list, what was the temperature, what was the top P, top K. Define your evaluation in a way that is machine readable and therefore machine replicable." "It’s really bad. The claims are not verifiable by humans because so many papers get submitted." @huggingface🍉 Abubakar Abid @abidlabsWe wrote up a blog post about what we learned by reproducing 2,200 accepted ICML papers with agents, including the falsifications that we found 🌶️🌶️71203.4K

MTS@MTSliveSITUATION EXPLAINED: Anthropic cut off Chinese labs from distilling Claude, so they reportedly switched to OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra. • Moonshot's Kimi K3.1 Pro and DeepSeek's V4.1-Flash 1017, both released this month, were reportedly trained on Astra's outputs, and neither lab has commented • Distillation means training a smaller "student" model to copy a stronger "teacher" model's answers, and it works through a normal API without the teacher's weights • In February, Anthropic said DeepSeek, Moonshot and MiniMax used about 24,000 fake accounts to run over 16 million chats with Claude • Distillers mostly want Claude's step-by-step reasoning, and in Anthropic's own test, a model trained on it scored 80.4% on a coding benchmark vs 71.8% when trained on summaries • Anthropic now hides that reasoning from distillers and bans their accounts, often within 2 hours of a campaign starting • Anthropic reportedly told investors distillation made up 5% to 7% of its revenue, and it's walking away from that money to shut it down • OpenAI said in September that it traced a distillation campaign that began in July to people linked to Moonshot @theojaffee: "It's not all distillation. I think there's a little bit of cope going on here. They genuinely have amazing talent. They're genuinely able to work very well with very limited resources compared to what US labs have in terms of compute."86526.8K
