- Counter to your counterpoint: You’re citing the results of previous races but it is important to talk about what produced them and what’s different now. In 2020, Trump was on the ballot. He isn’t in 2026. I was a first-time candidate running against a senator who had been in Washington for more than 25 years, chaired the Judiciary Committee (confirmed a SCt Justice nominee weeks before the election) and raised more than $100 million himself. Let’s not leave that part out. There’s no real incumbent in this race. And candidate quality matters. Dr. Annie Andrews has proven she can campaign, debate and raise money. Darline has raised little and has barely campaigned. Her biggest asset seems to be seasoned politicos like you carrying her water because she hasn’t shown she can carry it herself. And for the first time in 50 years, Democrats are contesting every statewide, federal and State House race. That means candidates knocking doors, organizing volunteers and turning out voters in communities we’ve ignored for too damn long. A statewide candidate benefits when voters have a reason to show up for races down the ballot, too. None of that guarantees a win. But if your entire assessment of 2026 is a recap of 2020, a totally different election, set of candidates, and political environment then you aren’t truly analyzing this race. And if this was truly a foregone conclusion then why on God’s green earth is Trump hauling his ass back to SC for a second visit in less than a week?! So please don’t do anything.
