#BlackInMathWeek

Join us today for #BlackInMathWeek and show twitter that we look like mathematicians! Share selfies with the hashtag #ILookLikeAMathematician, especially if you're doing math in the picture! We'll be sharing profiles of Black mathematicians today with #YouLookLikeAMathematician

#BlackInMathWeek #BlackinMathMedia I’ve talked about my love for this show before but it’s worth another mention. A Different World’s protagonist, Dwayne Wayne was an engineering major tutoring students in math. He got the girl, had all the friends, and made being a nerd cool.

Hi, I'm Cas, and I'm a 3rd year math PhD student at UT Austin studying low dimensional topology! I especially like hyperbolic geometry and knots. I'm Black and Puerto Rican 🇵🇷 and excited to follow lots of new people during #BlackinMathWeek! #BlackInMathRollCall

Hi @BlackInMath, I'm Evan, a PhD student in philosophy at UC Berkeley. I do mathematical and philosophical logic, philosophy of mathematics, and epistemology, with a special love for category theory and general abstract nonsense #BlackinMathWeek #BlackInMathRollCall

Hi everyone! I'm Mathys, here for the #BlackInMathRollCall. I have a PhD in category theory and operator theory, and as I work broadly on quantum computer science, I'm at the intersection of maths, CS and physics. Enjoy #BlackInMathWeek!

That's me teaching abstract algebra to a group of women mathematicians in the @edge4women program circa summer 2017. #ILookLikeAMathematician #BlackinMathWeek

What's good everybody?! My name's Kaitlin, and I am a third year PhD student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. If all goes well, I will be studying Knot Theory and dipping my toes into Math Education. Excited to meet y'all! #BlackInMathWeek #BlackInMathRollCall

It's officially #BlackInMathWeek!!! Which means it's time for introductions!!! Tell us about who you are and where you're at using the hashtag #BlackInMathRollCall!!! And tag us @BlackInMath!

Alright y'all let get it started! I'm Julian, math degree from @UMBC, now a Biomath PhD student at NCSU, working on HIV viral dynamics in infants. This week is going to be incredible. #BlackInMathRollCall @BlackInMath #BlackinMathWeek #BlackInMath

I have a Math Degree from @SpelmanCollege so I am also here to support #BlackInMathWeek @BlackInMath #BlackinMathRollCall I am a professor of electrical engineering which uses lots of MATH in every course. It is an integral language in everything we do.

I'm Michole Enjoli (my-coal un-jah-lee) a co-organizer for #BlackInMathWeek! #BlackinMathRollCall I am an educator, a mathematician, and a STEM Edutainment Producer (in that order). MY journey to math was always Black af so let's do some shoutouts about that (a thread)

#BlackInMathWeek kicks off today! To show the impact of math, we want to celebrate @insidenatgeo’s 2020 Hubbard Medal recipient Katherine Johnson. Keep up with the rest of this week’s events by following @BlackInMath.

Hey #BlackinMathRollCall #blackinmath #BlackInMathWeek I’m Vlad! I’m currently a research scientist at Eli Lilly & Co. doing clinical research. I received both my B.S and M.S in Mathematics, and my Ph.D. in Statistics. I’m proud to be one of the founders of @blackinstats

Hello everyone. I am Angela Tabiri, a postdoc @AIMSGhana . My research is in quantum algebra. It is an honour to be part of the organisers of #BlackinMathWeek . Looking forward to the activities for this week 😀 #BlackInMathRollCall

In 2020, @BlackInMath hosted the first #BlackInMathWeek. Check out Omayra Ortega and Noelle Sawyer’s (@blkmathmagic) #MathValues post on the project’s success and the importance of highlighting Black mathematicians and their accomplishments. #BlackInMath

As crazy as it sounds: It’s okay to fail classes. It’s okay to retake classes. Not all Math comes easy. I retook Calc 2, Calc 3, and Discrete Math Structures 2-3 times. Higher level Math is its own beast. You’ll lose and find yourself in it but you’ll be okay! #MyBlackMathJourney

Being a Math major is not for the weak. One thing that stuck with me as I got older were my Math teachers didn’t stumble into the Math field or grew to love Math. They ALWAYS loved Math and worked in Math. It’s hard but you have to get grounded in your why! #MyBlackMathJourney

Lastly, it’s so beautiful to know there are Math educators that look like me. I NEVER had a black Math teacher or professor growing up. I had to be the change I wanted to see in the field. I do what I do so black girls can see themselves in me #MyBlackMathJourney #BlackInMathWeek

Hey fellow Black mathematicians! I’m a high school math teacher based in Chicago! I LOVE math! I chose to teach math to encourage more young Black girls to pursue the field and realize there is so much to enjoy about it! ❤️ #BlackInMathWeek #BlackinMathRollCall

#BlackInMathWeek #ILookLikeAMathematician. Hey y’all! I may not actually be a mathematician but I’m definitely teaching future ones! #mathed #iteachmath #middleschoolmath #highschoolmath

Hi everyone! I’m Felicia and I’m a junior double majoring in Math & Spanish at U of South Carolina. I hope to teach math in Latin America in the Peace Corps. I also do neuroscience research and hope to get my PhD in Neuroscience! #BlackinMathRollCall #BlackInMathWeek
