I appreciate the passionate call to action for #Accountability and #LocalAction. However, we cannot effectively take on any system—especially the vast world of “CPS” and its child-protection variants—unless we first know exactly which framework we’re up against and how it operates at the local level. That’s precisely why I’ve spent the last two years diving deep into how local governments work and sharing this information via my substack to over 29,000 subscribers. Why? Go to my substack and look. And most recently Child in Need frameworks (CHINS, CHIPS, CINA, FINS, etc.) and how they actually function. Labeling everything “CPS” is too broad. Each jurisdiction—whether it’s a centralized state-run system, a county-based model, a privatized arrangement, or a hybrid—operates under different chains of authority and oversight. Without distinguishing which entity holds real power (is it the state agency, a county board, or a contracted nonprofit?), parents end up shouting at the wrong gatekeepers. Some states concentrate power at the state agency (and often face bureaucratic deadlocks). Others scatter it across county offices that may differ wildly in resources and policies. Yet others outsource responsibilities to private providers or even involve Sheriff’s Offices in investigations, layering complexity on top. By mapping out who is truly in charge of each step—intake, investigations, court petitions, and oversight—we can hold the right people accountable, not just recite constitutional ideals in the abstract. I agree that our founders recognized the power of the people to petition and demand redress. But a petition alone—without the knowledge of where and whom to serve it—is all too easy for agencies to ignore. We’ve seen how repeated pleas can vanish into county-run bureaucracies or into the folds of state-run monoliths. That’s why, through Project Milk Carton, we’re equipping parents and advocates with the actionable information they need: understanding which specific officials or agencies control each stage of the process, and how to leverage local laws, state statutes, and federal protections to force transparency and outcomes. Yes, #WeThePeople must engage. But effective engagement depends on knowing the intricacies—not only of constitutional rights, but of day-to-day procedures that dictate whether a child is removed or kept in limbo. The legal framework can differ drastically from one county to another, even inside the same state. You asked, “What does it mean if we do not ACT with the information?” The answer is that our “act” must be informed. That’s the entire point: knowledge precedes meaningful action. It’s not enough to say “someone needs to do something.” We need to do it. And doing it well means arming ourselves with facts. It’s why I’ve dedicated my background as a mentor, advisor, and technical expert to dissect these child-protection systems in detail—so no parent, no family, is left guessing about which lever to pull or which official to hold accountable. Your post calls for unity in action, and I wholeheartedly support that. But unity without direction quickly turns into scattered effort. When we push for #Justice and #Remedy, we need to know the specific agencies, laws, and backdoor policies that perpetuate these crises—that’s how we reclaim what’s being “stolen.” I’m not disputing the power of collective voices; I’m saying they must be targeted voices, informed by research, and backed by a precise understanding of how decisions are truly made. So yes, the legacy our founders left us is more than a right to vote. We have the right—and the responsibility—to investigate, expose, and correct any “color of law” abuses. Let’s do it with focused, local knowledge about the child-protection frameworks in each of our communities. That’s where Project Milk Carton comes in: we’re shining a light on how each jurisdiction runs its system so families can act based on accurate, relevant information—not just broad ideals. We are “in the fight.” But the most powerful weapon in that fight isn’t anger alone; it’s the strategic use of local, state, and federal law—all of which hinges on understanding the system you’re battling. This isn’t about ignoring the Constitution; it’s about applying it with laser precision to the real decision-makers. That’s how we ensure no child or family remains vulnerable to bureaucratic failures and that we truly address “the root of the problem,” not just the fruit. Knowledge isn’t the end goal; it’s the crucial first step to action. If we want real accountability, we must know who’s accountable. If we want real reform, we must understand how these frameworks wield power. By combining constitutional principles with on-the-ground research, we can move beyond talk and toward tangible results. Let’s keep pushing—for unity of purpose, informed by the real mechanics of CHINS, CPS, or whatever acronym is used in our local courts—so that every petition, every assembly, and every strategy hits its mark.
