Alex Gomez-Villa is a Computer Vision Postdoctoral Researcher focused on self-supervised learning for continual learning. She has fascination with emerging properties in #MachineLearning systems, particularly in #VisualPerception 💜🔬 📙 Her research background includes exploring how computer vision systems, specifically convolutional neural networks (CNNs), learn and develop visual perception abilities. 🌟 The #CVCWomeninScience video series is all about celebrating the achievements of women in STEM and Alex is an example of that. #WomeninSTEM #WomeninAI #STEM #AI #11F #8M #DonaiCiència #DiadelaDonailaNenaalaCiència #CVCPeople

Our visual systems are equipped with special cells in the visual cortex whose job is to detect vertical edges. Other cells detect horizontal and oblique lines. We're better at judging vertical lines than oblique ones. More: #visualperception
