Supabase has become one of the default backends for the AI coding era. The open source Postgres platform now has 13 million users, spins up more than a million databases every week, and roughly 70% of its new activity is coming from agents. As coding shifts from developers writing software by hand to agents building on their behalf, Supabase has been rebuilding itself around that new user. Supabase co-founder and CEO Paul Copplestone joins Garry, Harj, and Jared on the Lightcone to talk about what happens when everyone can become a builder. They dive into why personal software may become as common as personal documents, how to design products that agents actually want to use, and why knowing what to build may matter more than knowing how to build it. 01:18 - Growth and 4x Revenue 02:35 - Three Eras of Supabase 04:34 - “Builders” vs. Traditional Devs 08:42 - Personalized Apps 12:12 - Personal Databases & Data Ownership 15:56 - Scaling to Billions 17:58 - AI Adoption At Supabase 19:58 - Lessons Learned Along The Way 27:29 - Building For Personal Agents, Dogfooding 30:01 - Agent-First Design and Evals 38:42 - The Future Of Coding 42:36 - Opening Up More Entrepreneurship

Software is having its Industrial Revolution and it’s changing what matters in software frameworks. Today’s frameworks were designed for the crafty carpenter, tomorrow’s are designed for mass manufacturing processes where rigor > conciseness. Take foldkit vs react/solid, for example. You can argue that foldkit is more verbose or complicated for some use cases compared to the traditional alternatives, but everything doable in react/solid is also doable in foldkit. Everything doable in foldkit is not (or at least not easily or consistently) doable in react/solid because they lack the rigor of command+event state machines with story & scene testing. Getting that back isn’t easy and is a substantial loss for agentic coding. Before AI, there was the valid argument of picking what humans like best. Humans kinda suck at programming because we are constrained by our skills, taste and (lack of) discipline, so frameworks that worked in this era catered to the lowest common denominator of mass market human developers. While I agree that react/solid are powerful in the hands of humans, that simply doesn’t matter anymore. What’s best for humans does not necessarily translate to what’s best for agents. Some tasks may indeed be “a bit harder” with foldkit in human terms, but AI is capable of solving all of them in a few minutes, so who cares. Instead of bike-shedding philosophy and taste, just choose the more rigorous (and scalable) option. It costs you nothing and gains you everything. Effect is another example of this. With AI, now everyone of all skill levels can use advanced programming techniques that are objectively safer and more scalable, but were out of reach for many human programmers. Or didn’t appeal to the stubborn tastes of a particular person. With humans now out of the way of technology adoption - I think it’s obvious that the following techniques are going to become way more commonplace: 1. State Machines 2. Functional programming 3. Declarative infrastructure 4. Test Driven Development 5. Domain Driven Design 6. Actor Systems 7. Rigorous API schemas 8. Type Safety and Formal Verification 9. Disciplined Operations (monitoring, on-call) Alchemy is designed to bring these techniques together into a seamless experience for building and deploying applications of massive scale. It is the “rails” and “parts” of the ai software assembly line.

Blacksmith (W24) is building a faster cloud for continuous integration (CI), helping developers test and ship code as AI coding tools generate more of it. As software production accelerates, testing and validation are becoming the new bottleneck. That shift has helped @useblacksmith grow 20x over the last year, and the company recently raised a $66 million Series C at a $1 billion valuation. The founders, @adijayaprakash, @aayush_shah15, and @adityamaru27, started as outsiders to DevOps and built their first infrastructure using the same high-performance CPUs found in gaming PCs, renting servers originally designed for Minecraft and Call of Duty. Today, they run a much larger fleet with a team of just 30 people, helping companies cut CI waits from minutes to seconds. They share how they found the idea, won their first 200 customers, and why faster testing will become even more important as agents write more of the world’s code. 00:00 — Making CI Faster With Gaming CPUs 03:46 — Winning Over Investors and Developers 06:46 — Scaling CI for the AI Coding Era

Harness Engineering from Scratch 🚀 Found this excellent 21K+ star GitHub repo that teaches you how to build reliable AI coding agents, from the ground up. An entire open-source curriculum with 14 lectures, 8 hands-on projects, and 8 progressive learning phases. What makes it useful is the approach: instead of just learning concepts, you gradually build the engineering environment around an AI agent, using the same real application throughout the course. What's inside: → Agent instructions and repository structure → Context management and persistent memory → Multi-session continuity and task handoffs → Task planning, scope control, and progress tracking → Testing, verification, and observability → Automated coding loops and maker-checker workflows → Graph orchestration, parallel execution, and rollback Includes practical projects, reusable templates, a harness-creator skill, and technical breakdowns of how Claude Code, Codex, Pi, and DeepSeek build their harnesses. Available in 15 languages. Perfect for software engineers and AI developers who want to move beyond prompting and understand how reliable coding agents are actually built. Completely free and open source. Here's the GitHub Repo:
