When we talk about #randomisation we often assume this implies a single common method of allocating participants to treatments, yet there are a variety of alternative approaches used in practice. A recent paper reminds us of this. 1/6 #MethodologyMonday

When designing a trial how do you choose a randomisation method? Our recently published paper contains the results of focus groups aiming to answer this question: #Randomisation #Methodology #Trials

The future is bright! ☀️😎 We had the pleasure of meeting 52 young #Trialists from Irish primary schools for #ICTD2024 Their trials explored mood, sleep & learning strategies, & they conquered challenging aspects like #randomisation, recruitment & retention #Trialsmethodology

We've just had our 1st session #steppedwedge conference, we've learnt from @andrewforbes that we are in the process of taming the confounding beast of the design. However, there is plenty still to work on with over 3000 potential ideas to write about. @AdaKeding @noreenmdege

We then moved on to hear from #RhysBowden on the impact of ignoring treatment heterogeneity. Ignoring these will lead to overly precise estimates; similar #CrossOverTrials. A problem that cannot be fixed by simply adding more data; be it participants, clusters, or time periods.

Our 3rd speaker #CarolineKristunas talked about Covariate Constrained #randomisation #steppedwedge. When ICC is very small & no. #clusters Large, may want 2 conduct CCR & FullyAdjustedAnalysis. Greatest power when all covariates were balanced on & smallest candidate set size used

Everything that is produced by a computer is #deterministic Even randomness But #RCT #randomisation works because the computer allocation process has an almost zero probability to be associated to the outcome of interest 🎲 Thus disrupting any other variables that might be

Agreed @ProfRobHoward. Better #Mendelian #randomisation #mr studies would also be helpful given the practical and ethical issues with blood pressure #trials for #dementia
    Robert Howard @ProfRobHoward
Needs confirmation in a study that is allowed to run long enough to show that incident dementia cases also reduced. But, good control of blood pressure looks like the most convincingly modifiable risk factor for dementia.
