Why I don’t use Qwen 3.8 27b even though everyone clearly loves it 😆
    Aesther @AestherML
Qwen 3.8 27B is actually the most brilliant retarded model that I have ever used. 😅 It spends about 2/4 of its reasoning trace coming up with the most retarded ideas known to man, and then an additional 1/4 convincing itself that its ideas are completely retarded. It then manages, from the ashes of retardation, to arise towards the cleanest, most efficient, and bug-free implementation of any open-weight model of this size. It kinda works like American politics, in a way?!

I do fully agree with this. Getting 4 x Asus DGX Sparks 128GB used for only US $16k a few weeks ago was the deal of a lifetime. I look forward to more DGX Sparks coming on sale in the used market, and the local AI community will benefit. Nvidia's new DGX Spark 64GB units can go f themselves. Nobody wants that expensive trash. Paying $28k for M5 Ultra 512GB is still a deal in my eyes compared to a DGX Station but there will be better deals out there if you keep your eyes peeled. Still, to me they are like Pokemon and gotta catch them all. 👾

I'd take 4x DGX Sparks over M5U 512 GB any day! The system is so mature right now, and works so well, it will take YEARS for the Mac to get this good, if ever. You can't get with one Mac the versatility you have with 4 Sparks. You just can't. I can decide to run 2 models per 2 Sparks, or 1 model on all 4 Sparks, or 1 model on one Spark and another model on 3 Sparks. What about diffusion models? Image and video generation. How will that work if you run image gen on your Mac but also want to use an LLM? The versatility of the DGX Sparks is insane! Also, CUDA.

As more of us build personal AI labs and mini data centers, we’re going to face an interesting dilemma: An RTX 6000 Pro Blackwell can earn ~$850/month on decentralized networks like Sogni. That’s $3,400/month for a 4-GPU workstation. Suddenly, using your own hardware for personal projects has an opportunity cost. Every hour you’re experimenting is an hour you’re not earning. Our solution at Sogni is hilariously simple. We built an SSH guard that tells you (or your AI agent) who’s using the machine and for how long. You reserve a time slot, and when you’re done, the GPUs go back to earning on the network. The funniest part? AI agents treat the SSH welcome message like it’s the police. 😂 It’s literally just text in a terminal, but they respect it like some higher authority. The future of personal compute isn’t choosing between your own AI lab and a revenue-generating GPU business. It’s having both. Your GPUs work for you when you need them, and earn for you when you don’t. That’s the beauty of decentralized GPU neoclouds.

Important updates and fixes have been pushed to DeepSeek V4.1 Flash for 4x DGX Sparks ⚡️ This update includes 7 community PRs! Performance - Chats with images: resending a 35-image chat dropped from 20 s to 1 s (20x faster) - No more waiting: a short question asked during a long 51k-token prompt now answers in 0.3 s instead of ~13 s - CPU use per machine dropped from ~310% to ~0.2% (about 12 CPU cores freed) when on idle More reliable - Long prompts no longer time out clients (a keep-alive signal every 15 s) - Safer start/stop scripts - The test tools can’t report a false “pass” anymore Also, /metrics now shows how many prompt tokens came from the cache (prompt_tokens_cached_total), so dashboards can tell cache hits from real prefill work Thanks to @easthambuilds, @krunkosaurus, @uchkw, Manuel (manuel1618), and SvangenStudios, plus upstream TensorFold work by @jayleaton, @ashxhart and @BobClawblaw 🙏 Get it here:

I love Alex's posts and agree pound for pound the M5 Mac Studio Ultras look like a tremendous value—if we can actually get our hands on them. And when software actually improves. However, when I look back at the last month of GPU deals I've purchased or are discussing to purchase the deals I'm getting are not as bad as listed. You can find a DGX Station for US $94k + tax if you try hard enough. My last purchase of 4 Asus Ascent GB10/ Sparks was for only $4k each—2 weeks ago. I understand "like-new" is not brand new but if you shop around hard enough you can find deals. The deals are not gonna find you. Also even with these new numbers M5 Ultra still beats the pants off of everything re:value. I wouldn't be surprised if M5 Ultra prices eventually triple (but hope Apple stays on the side of the people and don't.) They are the only players left with the market cap and distribution to give Nvidia a run for their money.

The memory unit economics of Apple Silicon are insane. When you realise LLM inference is massively memory-bound (even at high concurrency!), you find that $ per memory bandwidth ($/GB/s) is the most important metric for inference. M5 Ultra: $5499, 96GB @ 1.2TB/s, $4.5/GB/s DGX Spark: $6950, 128GB @ 273GB/s, $25.5/GB/s DGX Station: ~$150K, 252GB @ 7.1TB/s (HBM3e), $21.1/GB/s M5 Ultra has 5.6x better $/GB/s than DGX Spark and 4.7x better $/GB/s than DGX Station. I am surprised Apple didn't increase their prices more (maybe they will so might be a good time to buy...) I expect 512GB M5 Ultra Mac Studio to start at $15899 (following the usual +$25/GB incremental memory price). That's a crazy good price for that much high speed memory. With RDMA over Thunderbolt 5 you get single digit microsecond latency and you can connect up to 5 Thunderbolt 5 cables between Macs for 400Gb/s network bandwidth (same as ConnectX-7). Thunderbolt 5 cables are ~$25 each. The main problem is the software on Apple Silicon is not great. There are about 30 competing inference engines, each supporting a small set of models, and quite unstable. The ecosystem around MLX is immature and limited (e.g. no Dynamo, LMCache, llm-d, ...). In our experience, more serious customers like Governments and Enterprises are put off by that and want something stable with an ecosystem of tools and software to run inference in production.

Neon, Sogni's first AI staff member has officially reached her 10th day alive. She's responded to 247 replies, 170 conversations in multiple languages, and 154 unique email addresses. That's 24 messages per day. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive to the point where I'm not sure people realize she's AI (she does mention it in her email signature). Pro tip: Assign your AI agents a MBTI personality type. For an amazing support staff person that's ISFJ It translates into someone who: - Shows empathy: understands why a failed task matters to the customer. - Troubleshoots methodically: checks evidence, asks focused questions, and tests possible causes. - Explains patiently: makes technical instructions understandable without being condescending. - Takes ownership: follows through until the issue is resolved or properly escalated. - Stays honest: admits uncertainty and avoids promising fixes they cannot deliver. After reading her responses: she has increased the happiness level of so many users and prevented cancellations so much that if she were a real person I would consider giving her a raise. But she's not. She's just a Hermes agent powered by GLM 5.3 Flash living inside 4x DGX Sparks in my house.
