If you use secrets scanning tools or are curious about secrets scanning it'd mean a whole lot to me if you gave the v2 release candidate of Betterleaks a try (bonus points for opening GH issues) Here are some of the highlights in recent rcs Container Scanning ---------------------- Scan images from registries, local Docker/Podman, saved archives. Scanning includes looking at historical layers, environment variables, and build history Better JSON and XML detection ---------------------------------- I debated between building a dedicated json and xml handler to parse key value pairs, siblings, and parent child relationships, but that gets hairy quickly. So we doubled down on "regex is all you need" by expanding the generic rule (api key and passwords) to support common json and xml patterns. So we can detect things like: ``` { "credential": { "score": 85, "category": "integration", "expiry": "1d", "value": "7c9e2a64b10f85d3e6a94720c" } } ``` In previous versions we don't detect this because "credential" (the keyword/identifier) is far away from the secret, "7c9e5d3e6a94720c5fb381da42e6b9f". It's not just that the secret is far away from the keyword, "credential", but rather there are other strings that would consume the capture beforehand like "integration" (there are a few other reasons we didn't detect this before, the distance is just one of them). Def need a blog post on this at some point. Go-Git is back ---------------- Ages ago Gitleaks used go-git for scanning git histories. It was slow and unoptimized. But now, thanks to the power of AI, "I" was able to write a bunch of git plumbing in pure go w/ go-git to achieve the same (really in most cases, better) performance than shelling out `git` commands. Safer, faster, more performant. Win win. Better Git scanning ------------------- Reflog and unreachable-object git scanning can find credentials left behind after resets, rebases, or amended commits while those objects still exist locally. Easy as `betterleaks git . --include=unreachable-objects,reflog`

RT @Playerinthgame: my dudes, this is an easy one. they do not care. these are not banking billionaires - they're revenge of the nerds billionaires. they've hated people since middle school and they want to win the game they think we're all playing.
    ‏ً @omgsidewalks
I cannot wrap my head around the endgame here. If you destroy the planet, crash the global economy, and leave ordinary people too broke to buy anything, what exactly are billionaires planning to do with all that money? Sit in underground bunkers staring at bank balances while the world falls apart? Wealth is only valuable when there's a functioning society around it. So what exactly are they trying to win?

RT @AikidoSecurity: Introducing @NoonSecurity, the modern workforce security platform 🌞 We built Aikido Security to secure devs. But what about…everybody else? You don’t just need to protect the products you build, you also have to protect the people building them with you. So we built Noon. One platform to: - Secure inboxes. Automatically detect and remove email threats that filters miss. - Protect devices. Stop malware, malicious extensions, and risky websites. - Govern AI use. See which AI tools team members use and govern safe usage. - Train your people. Run realistic phishing simulations across email, deepfake calls, SMS, and more. As part of Noon, we’ve acquired two workforce security companies: Cyberly and OutKept. Their teams have joined us to lead product expansion. Get your team secure by Noon, get early access:

I am getting lots of incoming questions about the public execution of Nidal Hasan, mostly because I have been outspoken on wanting public executions for over a decade. My position is simple: Executions should be public and brutal, not private and medicalized. They are the ultimate example of the state's monopoly on violence, and the only way to keep that from running out of control is to confront voters with the trade they have made every single time, that they might have appropiate confidence or revulsion in the institution. This is not new thinking. George Washington thought the same. The way we have shifted from hanging to firing squads to doctors quietly injecting chemicals that send our worst gently off to sleep is awful and dystopian, a total short-circuiting of important feedback mechanisms. It makes needless executions more likely, not less so. People who demean this as barbaric or yucky miss the whole point. It doesn't somehow become torture or inhumane (as the UN is suddenly claiming) just because we decline to hide the act behind a curtain. And then there are those who suggest any revel in the death of those who truly deserve it is an indicator of a broken or diseased mind. To the contrary. It is normal, good, and aligned with our natural and national order. That it has not been done here in 60 years is an indictment in and of itself. And that is without even getting into the fact that men were not hung for stealing horse, but that horses may not be stolen. "I would to God that one of the most attrocious in each State was hung in Gibbets, up on a gallows five times as high as the one prepared by Haman. No punishment, in my opinion, is too great for the Man, who can build his greatness upon his Country’s ruin." - George Washington, 1778

RT @Pontifex: Intelligence must draw on memory. The mind must not simply compile data — as an algorithm now does more quickly than we can — but recall lived experiences, which contain depths of meaning that only the human soul can recognize, and connect more deeply with the goodness of these experiences. Everything that is good begins “with the Spirit” and thus possesses a breath, a dynamism and a sense of communion that, once experienced, are engraved upon the heart.

Jacob Coxon says Anthropic employees call themselves “ants” and sacrifice their careers for the company’s singular pursuit of superintelligence, while calling OpenAI "distracted and messy" “At Anthropic, it felt a lot more like—well, for starters, the employees call themselves ants. They’re ants in the anthill. Everyone is like a worker ant trying to make Anthropic’s mission go well. “People are very willing to sacrifice themselves for the good of the mission. They’ll take on work that’s less interesting, less big, bold and exciting, and less flashy. They’ll do it at a hit to their own interests for the good of the company. “That’s because every decision comes back down to, ‘Is this going to get us to superintelligence faster?’ “You’ve seen Sora, the video platform OpenAI made. Anthropic would never make Sora because it’s not on the core path to artificial superintelligence. OpenAI is distracted and messy. One guy says, ‘I want to do Sora,’ or, ‘I want to build a little device,’ and they let them do it because it doesn’t have the same focus. At Anthropic, that would never happen.” Patrick Bet-David: “Who would shut it down? The seven co-founders?” Jacob Coxon: “They’d all agree. It would be like, ‘This video isn’t the right direction for heading straight to superintelligence.’”
