One of my favorite parts of being a growth investor at @a16z is that we get to take bold, high conviction bets even at the earliest stages of company building. When Martin first intro'ed me to @drfeifei, World Labs wasn't fundraising but the path was pretty clear: get involved as early as possible. Watching Fei-Fei, @jcjohnss and @BenMildenhall dream up new worlds, push the frontier forward with state of the art models and build an incredible culture this past year was a privilege and joy. This team is truly N of 1. Congrats to @theworldlabs and @AMD a partnership led by the two of fucking best CEOs in the world. I can’t wait to see what they build together. And none of this would be possible without my world class venture partner @martin_casado, whom I got to see firsthand roll up his sleeves on every level of the company. The best to ever do, imho.

RT @DavidGeorge83: Great piece on @databricks and our history w them. @alighodsi is the original Technical Terminator. @bhorowitz's take on Ali: "We see great entrepreneurs but their market opportunity is limited, and then we see companies that have a great market opportunity but the entrepreneur is not big enough to fulfill that. But this was a case where we had both... Last month, Databricks crossed a $7 billion revenue run rate, growing 80% year over year, and was valued at $190 billion. The entrepreneur, it turned out, is big enough."

RT @oliviakoshy: we raised a lot more money(!!!) so we could throw away a product used and loved by thousands of customers and entirely rebuild it from scratch for a new era of software are we crazy? yes is it correct? also yes! so much more to share soon 💜

In May, we had just closed our best quarter ever – and of course decided to re-build @hexanalytics from scratch. Today we're announcing two things: Hex 4.0, the first analytics platform truly built for agents; and a $100m fundraise at a $1.2B valuation, led by @peakxvpartners The world is changing fast, and we're not slowing down! Ali Ghodsi: "There’s no agentic work that’s automated the whole enterprise. That has just not happened." "The models are smart enough, but they just don't have the context that exists inside of any organization." "And if you just fused that and gave that context into the AI models, just the frontier today, I think there's so much productivity gains you could get for any organization on the planet." Ali has a singular understanding of how AI will integrate into the enterprise, and Databricks is going to define the future of the firm. Awesome piece. He is the best combination of foresight, commercial Genghis Khan-ness, and technical depth we've ever seen. Awesome piece and even more fired up about Databricks than when Growth first partnered in 2019!

Computer use is finally entering its scaling moment. Better models, faster execution, stronger safety controls are all making agents actually practical for both consumer and enterprise work. Very bullish on the new paradigm of agents working productively in the background even for non technical users. Great pod from my partners @seema_amble @fabserafini with @AriX and @JamesZmSun!

OpenAI's computer-using agents can now operate almost any app the way a person does, clicking and typing through software that never got an API, and the team building them says they're close to beating expert humans on speed. RT @YODELAGARZA: Patch or Die! Today we sent the following out to the CEOs in our portfolio regarding the widespread vulnerabilities that have been detected by AI agents: The previous week should make it obvious that things have changed. Vulnerabilities are being discovered and exploited at a rate that has never been seen before. While there has been a flood of new vulnerabilities AI agents are being adopted at scale multiplying the potential risk. Agents not only help automate the attacker lifecycle, every ai agent is an insider threat. Your environments are designed to withstand attacks from the outside, not from within. As such, we are suggesting company leaders consider the following changes: 1 - Ensure you're sufficiently staffed for security. The average enterprise allocates roughly 10% of its tech spend to security. Consider doubling that. There are likely thousands of vulnerabilities that need fixing in your environments. Security through obscurity no longer works, all that can be exploited will be exploited. 2 - Establish a zero tolerance policy for secuirty bugs in new features and product releases. Re-examine launch and release schedules and consider delays to ensure all vulnerabilities are patched before deploying new features or products. 3 - Double tap the zombies. Find all old legacy environments that have been neglected and turn them off. Labs, test environments, zombie CI/CD projects etc. Turn it off for now. If it isn’t tied to revenue, kill it. 4 - End the risk acceptance process. Over the last 10 years the risk acceptance process has morphed from a way to accept risks to enable the business, to a way to justify never fixing security issues. Adopt a zero tolerance policy for security issues and risks.

RT @a16z: Marc Andreessen says the gap between what AI-native startups and incumbents think AI can do is the widest he’s ever seen: "The AI-native early stage startups have just a completely different view on what they can do with AI than the typical incumbents in almost any industry, almost without exception." "AI is just racing ahead in capability even week by week... There are going to be a lot of industries that are really up for grabs in a fundamentally more profound way than maybe has been the case in the past." "The founders are gonna have a level of superpowers coming from the use of these tools and these technologies that they just simply haven't had in the past... Had I had Astra and Netscape in 1994, like, oh my God. Like, Ben, what would you and I have been able to do at Netscape?" "Those entrepreneurs are gonna color way outside the lines. We already see this. They're not gonna think of themselves as like, 'I'm just a software company,' or, 'I'm just a hardware company,' or even, 'I'm just an AI company.'" @pmarca @bhorowitz
