NATURE (and Science too, the year before) - the strange case of dr Lonni Besançon
1. My first contact with this person (L.B.), who has a degree in smartphone screen interface (which he calls "data visualization"...) was bizarre.
Posting about medicine, vulgarizing molecular biology concepts, and explaining SARS2, RNA etc... i was strongly aggressed and insulted upfront by a group of people I did NOGT know, never met... his online "coterie".
Those were Lonni Besançcon, Ari Kouts (web dev), and a certain FabFrank (bio) and a couple of others. NO matter what I tried to LOGICALLY write, or argue.. insults were their lore.
In the span of a few posts, such insults nearly always VEERED to sexual slurs.. Style - apologies but THIS is standard fare for this group of people - i translated because the originals are in french...
- "that is not what your mother was saying when i f@#$% last night",
- "you dad ejaculated piss to finish you "
and worse...
Lonni B also provoked people in daring them to meet in person, to fight it off... there exist numerous posts like those..
There were many occurrences of such unacceptable bad behaviors against many many people... and he literally "terrorized " average people out of the threads of honest scientists.
Later I saw and understood that this was standard practice for him and his friends. Ari K and FabFrank were always aligned even in such bad acts!
2. Then i saw that he and his group were misleading people attacking the credentials of bona fide MD's and scientists and faking theirs!
Numerous examples abound, but one was funny...
He aired that I never practiced medicine and was NOT a true MD. I did not even noticed that until it was debunked by my Colleague Dr V Baudoux - who showed all documents and PUBLICLY de-constructed their lie!
They also attacked the credentials of many MD's, MD-PhD's (Dr Raoult, Dr Malone, Dr Peronne ..) or PhD's (like Dr A Henrion Caude,...)
But what was a bridge way too far, Dr Besançon was very crafty in suggesting HE WAS a medical doctor.
He presented himself as a "colleague of those MD's" , he wrote that "he always recommended the vaccination when dealing with pregnant women or patients " , he promoted mixing various vaccine products as super safe in "his experience" and so on... Without a Medical degree - which HE has not - this is "exercice illégal de la médecine in the EU", and it is thus an alleged crime worthy of investigation.
3. Then he seemed to have had problems at an Australian university where he was a post-doc...
As to the nature of the rift between LB and Monash (online sexual harassment?), the University made it VERY clear to enquiring mails it had NO more links with Dr L Besançon. The terminology was in itself defensive. The mails with Monash U. were available online 2 years ago...
4. Lastly, he seemed embarked on a crusade to tear down the work of the IHU from Marseille.
With the help of Dr Elizabeth BIK, his partner in crime, they published a DEEPLY misleading paper under the guise of listing ALL the infinite ethical breaches of the IHU.... trying and obtaining the retraction of numerous published papers from the IHU. Because the editors of other scientific publications were fooled by their "ethical paper"
The problem was - and still is - that their INITIAL listing of breaches is wrong. With Dr Baudoux, and a 3rd medical colleague, we reviewed the more than 400 publications from the IHU that were attacked by this maleficent group of people (aka. PubSmear now ) and ALL of nearly ALL were perfectly in tune with the norms and regulations in place in France and abroad.
To give the reader here a vivid example (out of many) - L. B. obtained the retraction of a paper for ethical breach - the said paper was dealing with collecting excrements from wild animals in Africa! Does one needs an ethical protocol clearance to collect sh.... from the ground and doing PCR for unknown germs? I can tell you it is a NO!
For all those reasons,
I wonder what will the Editor in chief of Nature will have to say for HIS defense when it will be widely known thet HE promoted a weirdo, with a proven ONLINE track record of abuse and sexual innuendos/harassament?
I think we all should ask this Editor in chief at Nature this question!
